Very random question...on Lancaster Avenue, who owns the large warehouse beside the Bowlerama, near Simms corner? And what in the heck are they using the building for? I've always wondered this since living here for 15 years!

I don't know what it's used for these days, but it used to be a Ford parts warehouse when I was a kid. There was a big Ford sign on it visible from Lancaster Mall (K-Mart Plaza ). Sorry that doesn't answer your question, but that's all I know...

Reverse Address Lookup shows it as belonging to "Maillet Transport"

Sorry to kick this hornets nest again.....but we need to get some pressure to get this center lighting issue resolved!
As mentioned before, it was on the table but they (board) decided to go for the scanner instead. We need this lighting at our airport!

I know nothing about the situation at Saint John airport, but wasn't the government pressuring airports to get those scanners? Was it really a choice or did they have to spend that money?

I was wondering the same thing, but have no idea what the answer is.

Being a frequent flier that uses YSJ on an almost weekly basis I agree that better lighting would make a huge difference. There is nothing more frustrating after a long day or two of travel and hearing he pilot announce we may not be able to land in Saint John due to fog.

However I would much much rather see a centralized NB airport and stop spending money on three small airports that will never be able to garner high enough passenger volumes to justify larger more cost efficient airplanes or more frequent flights. No more of those three hour layovers in YYZ or YUL please.

I thought Transport Canada picked up the tab on this and not the airport.

As for the lighting situation, since we are the third foggiest city in Canada this seems to be a no brainer. I've missed the early Toronto flight before because the plane didn't come in due to the fog...I had to do the puddle jump to Halifax in order to get to TO (and missed my connection to boot). Now I don't fly all that too often, so I can only imagine the headache of others!

That building looks quite large! Very nice. Wondering what kind of employment numbers does this bring...

Also: Very interesting Repsol developments

Wow! Great news that seemed to have some out of left field. Not only is this more jobs, but more very well paying jobs.

Repsol is obviously fantastic news as well.

Russia's deal with China changes everything.

Hopefully it halts progress w/ Northern Gateway and puts significantly more focus on Energy East as we may see with Repsol's $2B plans in Saint John

Perhaps EE will be our last large scale oil infrastructure to enter into the transition away from FF

Will Saint John be the CDN epicentre for the energy transition? We have the tides

The Tucker Park plan is exciting because it bridges the (albeit small gap now) between the Regional and UNBSJ. There's been a big push in recent years to bring them together in a sort of Knowledge Park-type of centre and it's certainly shaping up that way. Would it be too much to ask for an indoor connection between Campus and the Regional via this new building?

Repsol's $2B push is also exciting. It's pretty remarkable the amount of projects and money being thrown around right now in the city.

Stephanie Turner (Saint John Commercial Real Estate) tweeted this tonight:

One artist's concept of #91King restoration

wordpress.com

http://sjcommercialre.wordpress.com/2014/05/21/one-artists-concept-of-91king-restoration/

"Here’s one example of what 91 King Street might look like with a facade restoration and the addition of a rooftop glass atrium. Note the second floor windows which were there in the original building.

I encourage everyone to include the #91KING hashtag when tweeting thoughts on this building."

Her description of the property earlier this month provides this:

"In the heart of uptown Saint John’s historic district. High profile location overlooking King’s Square Park and next door to the famous Saint John City Market (honoured as one of Canada’s Great Public Spaces in 2013). The existing 44,050 sq ft building is 3 floors + basement and sits on 1/3 of an acre.

This property is ripe with potential. The property is an ideal candidate for redevelopment as high rise residential with commercial/retail on the ground level or other mixed use project. The property is just outside the Trinity Royal Heritage Conservation Area which provides developers with greater flexibility. The property is zoned B-3 (Central Business) but is migrating to CU (Uptown Commercial) in late 2014. New zoning allows for buildings up to 60 metres (approx. 20 stories) on this corner.

Saint John’s future is looking bright with growth in the oil & gas sector and renewed interest in urban living. Now is the time to act."

I'll be glad to see something done with that corner, but why is this being described as a "restoration"?
