100% agree, it 's a cycle. the school & division is making efforts to have family days and parent cooking classes, it has "ok" attendance but the ones that should be there are not

Kudos to the Pollards for spearheading this project, and for the support from the various levels of government. Hopefully it has a positive impact on homelessness in the city and we see more facilities like this.

I really can't credit the Pollard family enough. They seem to have taken on the complicated issue of homelessness as a personal mission, and through their charity they're starting to take some positive steps.

I'll also credit the provincial government for committing to funding the supports the residents will need. I don't often give a nod to the PC's but I'll happily do that here. I can say "my taxpayer dollars at work", and not be sarcastic!

Talk about a story about nothing. It was closed for 3 hours.

In the story someone calls for somebody to be fired and won't someone think of the tourists.

They are just figuring out the systems and will get it right.

Re The Leaf closure. There is definitely a case to be made that the systems already worked perfectly. Sure they closed for three hours but they closed because the systems put in place issued a warning that one area of the building was at a dangerous temperature. This isn't that there was a critical incident with a person alerting the facility to an issue but rather the design of the facility catching the issue. And that they turned that situation around in under three hours is also impressive.

Richardson building is far more architectural . That's one that's worth saving.

What the heck does 'more architectural' mean?

The window frames look bad. They should match the rest of the building in anodized aluminum. The blue cladding looks bad and incongruous with the colour of the rest of the building. That's it.

It's obvious that this will ultimately be a protected building, the designers should know better.

As part of the permit they would have needed an Energy model at the very least - especially with the translucent panels they used.

The article mentioned that one temp sensor in the building was reading 43C, and the rest around 33C. It's possible it was a sensor malfunction too.

But I also agree it's kind of a nothingburger all around.

Any word on the empty Osborne Street in the VIllage Fenced off parking lot next to the former Basil's?
Does anyone know of some plan to retrofit the Revenue Canada building on Broadway into a hotel?

Strange though, still no details from the owner, no rendering or brand. They basically interviewed the President of the Manitoba Hotel Association and some food truck owner.

That is fantastic news. A hotel for that site is great because people staying in them tend to spend money on food, shopping and entertainment. The guests come and go and walk around which livens up the streetscape, especially after hours. Having a second hotel on Broadway will be a shot in the arm to the restaurants around there.

I wonder if that is the death blow for any plans to build a hotel on that Donald Street lot next to the Charter House, though?
