The Utah Office of Tourism is spending $3.2 million this spring for a print and television advertisement campaign in hopes that the number of out-of-state visitors this summer remains steady.
Last year, about 20 million people visited Utah and spent more than $7.2 billion, said Leigh von der Esch, the office's managing director. Von der Esch said she doesn't have any projections for this year.
This spring, the ads will appear on national cable television channels, including National Geographic, A&E, the History Channel, Fox News, Animal Planet and the Travel Channel. Also this spring, ads will run on local stations in Los Angeles, Denver and Phoenix. Research shows that the majority of out-of-state visitors are from nearby states, von der Esch said.
Print ads will run in Sunset, Outside, National Geographic Adventure, Budget Travel and Backpacker magazines. Interactive ads will also appear on the Internet, including Orbitz.com, TripAdvisor.com, and Expedia.com. In all, the Office of Tourism is expected to generate 214.5 million advertising "impressions."
"One day, you could be hiking red rock," von der Esch said. "The next day, you could be enjoying the symphony in Park City and the cool mountain air of Deer Valley."
3.2 mill. on adds???
Put that money back into your pockets people.Or better yet,use that money on the first 15 floors,of our 50 story,1000 room convention sized hotel. We don't need adds. All you have to do is ask anyone around this world about our kickass state. It's inbeded in everyone before birth....."Top three things you must do before you die; 1-mountainbike UTAH, 2-ski UTAH, 3-breath-Utah".Those who don't,die a painful, uneventful life........saltlake4life..BAMMZ
I can't wait to see the O.C. Tanner open in just a few more months.
Agreed. I consider the old SL Library to be one of our top historical jewels in the City, and there is something so right about OC Tanner occupying the structure.

3.2 mil = 15 floors of hotel yeah more like the foundations if they were lucky.
I think the ratio was 8:1 for dollars spent on advertising versus what we get back in economic stimulus. What a great investment! I think these commercials and many of the past are great. I would like to see much more spent on advertising. Utah reminds me of that Seinfeld episode about the two-faced women that Jerry dates. You ask people about Utah in other states and countries and you get something akin to the two-faced women. Much of what people say about the state can't completely be debunked without visiting. Those who have a good experience will go back to their friends and family and tell them... you can't buy that kind of advertising.

...After studying the update, the GSA will decide to either continue working with the Utah company or to terminate its $5.9 million contract for alleged nonperformance, according to Leigh Ann Bunetta, an agency spokeswoman in Denver.
If the contract is terminated, the GSA will hire another firm, she said Thursday...
Remember when I was talking about the ever-changing police cars?
Yeah, I do too, well anyway, here is the older version:
They need to go back to that.
It was simple, but awesome.
Wow, this brings back memories! This picture brings many good and bad memories growing up in Rosepark. Things like, "Run! Here comes a cop!" are forever etched in my mind. If done right, I think a throw back like this could be cool. Maybe they could do this along with the old Jazz jerseys.
I wonder if the city has taken into consideration Westminster's student body for the trolley line on twenty first. I know that when I went there a large portion of the student body didn't have cars and would probably use the line every day. The students at Westminster would also be very enthusiastic about using public transportation and the line would go right next to the college.

Yup, same experience in my neighborhood around Fairmont Park.
I like the SSLPD cruisers. All black with just the seal on the doors.

I think those SSLPD cruisers are a flagrant, wanton abuse of public funds. Whatever shallow, contrived reasons they came up with to excuse their purchase are beyond the pale. One of the thousand reasons why South Salt Lake is the idiocy capital of the planet.
