That corridor is more aggravating to me because it's a drop to 3-stories in the middle of downtown. Plus with the housing crisis, it should be more like 15 stories with retail on the bottom, and a tower once in a while. Same with Denman and Davie.

Lol, if you were to live in that building you would probably never meet your neighbours . #eastmainlandmuhnee

Yes he is, hopefully what he builds in Toronto will be equally as stunning. It would be nice to see him build something in Halifax as well. A lot of his designs would fit right in along it's waterfront.

If there's a city that needs some love from BIG it's Hamilton!

There is going to be a proposal out in a while for an institutional building on the Halifax waterfront. It will be meant as a new space for the Art Gallery of NS and maybe NSCAD and some other institutions. I doubt it will be a highrise, but it will be a landmark and probably have a budget in the hundreds of millions.

It seems like Scandinavian architects are considered trendy right now and they get hired for a lot of vanity type projects. The Halifax Central Library was developed by Schmidt Hammer Lassen.

The rumoured site for the new AGNS is the Salter block, i.e. the empty lot just south of Salter Street. There is also a proposal for the Cunard block at the foot of Morris. Construction on that one is supposed to begin in 2019.

View of Halifax showing some of the progress on Queen's Marque (far right). If you look closely you can also see the Flynn Flats construction on the left (narrow 10 storey building) and in the middle there is a yellow crane for 1595 Barrington. Eventually that crane will need to be raised up higher and the new building will be somewhat visible in the skyline (16 floors or so). It's only around 4-5 floors right now.

The protruding boxes were a nice choice. Did they revise from the original? Makes that my favourite side of the building. I like the different texture it creates. Makes an already amazing building even better.

If you look the top floor is the same as well as one near the bottom of the middle. I wonder if they are mechanical or amenity spaces? Sure doesn’t look like plywood to me. It’s clear glass.
