I think they should keep a few of them, until they eventually get tall

This looks totally better than the initial renderings.

Now, this is what I'm talking about!

Not only is this over twice as tall as the original rendering, this design is befitting of the location.

The original rendering was hideous, in a not good enough for Daytona way.

Yes, for those googling, the address is actually 3380 Peachtree Rd NE.

I am a little surprised by the close proximity of all the proposed grocery stores as well. I seem to recall one being proposed at 12th and Midtown at one point, though I have not heard anything about that lately. I asked if the 811 Peachtree project is still talking about a grocery store, and they are. There are elevators that would open right into the space from the retail parking, which would be convenient.

Perhaps the wrong address

I think this is 3330, not 3380 which is the Dante's site.

Odd, in that the street level does look sort of like the Charles Schwab building at 3330.

However the architect lists it at 3380 (Dante's). http://www.ragarch.net/#!portfolio/ctzx

And it's obvious that the Mandarin Oriental is to the left.

That's a lot of Tech kids. You can see their desire path cutting across that empty lot across from MidCity Lofts.

So the landowner is pissed off at the Beltline... and in retribution, decides he wants to continue to block his customers from visiting his own store?

How do people this stupid become successful

I realize it sounds sort of odd from the outside, but as someone who knows how the negotiations went with the Beltline firsthand, the owner wanted a connection through his property and tried to work with the city during permitting. In fact, there were several proposed designs that went back and forth on the ramp. Unfortunately the beltline group took drug their feet and wouldn't work towards a solution so the two rather large and expensive retaining walls along the Beltline now exist. It gets more complicated than that, but I'd rather not get into much more detail. The landowner is definitely not stupid, it was more that the trust with the city was ruined as was his pocketbook.

Interesting food for thought.

I think it mostly comes down to a culture thing. Looking at the character of the site, the landowner probably owes a lot of their success to car-oriented, suburban-esque development. I don't think he/she even sees a connection to the Beltline as a potential stream of additional revenue, considering how that's completely out of the ordinary, especially for Atlanta.

That being said, I can't imagine the owner would want any more disruptions to business on their property. While these short-term concerns are valid, this situation definitely hinders the longer-term potential of this site, and indeed, the neighborhood as a whole.

EDIT: Just read Dettmann1's post... interesting to hear that the story is a far more nuanced than it first appears. Hopefully some kind of resolution can be reached eventually, for the sake of all parties involved.

This isn't SkyHouse, which is going up one block South of here.

SkyHouse Buckhead is behind Maggiano's. This tower is on the former site of Dante's.
