also in TAN with no paywall and some details as to timeline/design principles--I have never been to Cleveland but it seems like a great opportunity for the city. I find this bend in the Cuyhoga pretty unique and the twin peninsulas that are created by it, connected by all the bridges, full of potential!

David Adjaye’s riverfront master plan gives us a reason to visit Cleveland

yes the crooked cuyahoga river bends are uniquely local scenic features and are also just below downtown level in a valley.

there is nothing like sitting out and watching ore ships and boaters wind around them, it's nice.

they have been highly industrialized until recently cleared -- and there are plans in motion to rebuild on them, ie.:

there is nothing more clevelandy than the old warner and swasey factory complex, probably thee major old relic people want to see redeveloped.

it won more historic tax credits and is supposed to become mixed income housing:

bridgeworks project is about to be fully funded and should get going later this year --
it's rather colorful and nice and it is on a prominent site --

Bridgeworks Project Will Reach Full Funding With $2 Million Loan From Cuyahoga County
The $100-million project will break ground this year, developers said

By Mark Oprea on Tue, Feb 28, 2023

Bridgeworks, the long-in-the-works mixed-use project that will bring 140 apartments, 130 hotel rooms, and a restaurant to the foot of the Detroit-Superior Bridge, inched closer to build stage this weekend when Cuyahoga County proposed a $2 million that would finalize funding for construction.

The Place-Based, Mixed-Use Loan, as the money is officially called, will top off the $103-million financing goal of M. Panzica and GRAMMAR, the developer team leading the Bridgeworks development.

The loan, which could be finalized in two weeks, follows a string of financial incentives, including a $223,000 Ohio Brownfield grant and a 30-year tax-increment financing agreement, that closes the money gap after years of cobbling together a capital stack to make it a reality.

“The county is excited to assist with a project that can help accelerate the growth of the Hingetown district in the Ohio City neighborhood,” Ronayne said in a statement.

"It will make a critical connection between the Ohio City neighborhood and the West Bank of the Flats," he added, "and will turn an underutilized property into a valuable community asset."

Ohio City’s Vitrolite Building reopening with new businesses

Published: May. 03, 2023
By Megan Sims, cleveland.com

CLEVELAND, Ohio – One man’s trash is another woman’s treasure as a female-owned commercial real estate firm breathes new life into the long empty Vitrolite Building.

Harness Collective’s first venture is expected to host its grand reopening on May 20, bringing several new businesses to Ohio City’s Hingetown Neighborhood at 2915 Detroit Ave. There is also a second entrance at 2906 Church Ave.

The nearly 18,000 square-foot, three-story building will be home to Harness Cycle, a cycling studio; Soul Yoga, which is owned by a Cleveland native; and Patron Saint, an Italian-inspired café as well as other female and minority-owned businesses

Cleveland Planning Commission wants Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad connection as part of Bedrock’s massive riverfront project

Published: May. 20, 2023
By Steven Litt

"Early stage “conceptual” plans for a massive downtown riverfront development proposed by Bedrock, the real estate company headed by Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert, won unanimous approval Friday from the Cleveland City Planning Commission.

...

Friday’s vote came with conditions. One of the most important is that the city wants Bedrock to continue working with public agencies to explore the possibility of including an extension of the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad in its plans.

Such a connection could provide a direct rail link from Tower City Center to the Cuyahoga Valley National Park and Akron — something planners have dreamed about for decades."
