Isn't this just a reborn version of the same rumour in October 2009?

I consider myself to be one of the biggest Winnipeg Jets fan - I was heartbroken when the team left. I'm not about to get too excited over a rumour to bring an NHL club back to this city - I'm not even sure if the NHL deserves a city like Winnipeg.

1. The Chipman Group (who own the Manitoba Moose) along with the Thomson Group (co-owner of the MTS Centre) and a 3rd silent partner have purchased the Atlanta Thrashers
# 2. The press conference is March 4th (the day after the NHL trade deadline)
# 3. The Manitoba Moose will be heading to Saskatoon

Normally I've quickly brushed off rumours, but there could be something to this one as NNW has had several far-out-there tips pan out before. Not all their news tips have been accurate, but most have.

If we learn on March 4th that this rumour is true, I'll eat some crow as I have insisted that a team isn't coming here for a long time. Whether a team would be financially successful here would take years, of course, to determine.

I can see this happening...... Though, when you say a study for this was done at one point.... are you talking recently or prior to when the Centre was built?

I thought the name "Flames" was meant to symbolise all the grass fires in the Calgary area, or the flares on local oil wells or the Olympic torch (oh wait, that happened after the team). I never knew that the name was in homage for something that someone named Sherman ordered done on November 15, 1864.

On to the next one, on to the next one! I would love to see the NHL back, but my biggest concern over professional hockey at the highest level in this city is the amount of entertainment dollars it would redirect from peoples pockets that would otherwise have gone to support our large, renowned and impressive arts and entertainment scene.

Though, I suppose an argument could be made that those who watch ballet aren't traditional beer, wings and hockey fans.
