The 1980s aren't the 1930s.

Despite regulations oversight still happen and people die. The failure of the gearing mechanicism that cause the construction hoist to shoot 100 miles an hour into the air was one of those oversights that led to deaths.

BTW, Excavation started in late 1983/early 1984 and the tower was completed in 1989. Vicious rezoning process too.

Nice Photo by scamander24 at urbantoronto

ICE Condos/10 York/Sunlife Tower/Harbourplaza

One Bloor Update: - cladding is being added to the tower. So far as I can tell its the same quality of cladding that was used on the base and podium. So no Aura Condo cheap out here, where they switched to window wall from curtianwall when they hit the tower levels. One Bloor is about 23 floors up so far, another 52 floors to go.

Sunlife Tower doesn't look too bad in this shot. Nothing great, but not too bad. Decent enough density filler anyways.

That would be the new RBC headqaurters at Waterpark Place. I like the green roof, but overall, a pretty disappointing tower for Canada's largest company.

Don't they have a bunch of towers all around Toronto?

Sunlife tower is the construction site 2 -3 floors up in the front right of the RBC Waterpark tower which is almost complete.

BTW: you can see the square cores of the Harbourplaza condo towers

You're right. I had a complete brainfart with the name of the towers here. Either way, the one tower pretty much completed (RBC) doesn't look too bad in this photo.
It's a pity this side will soon(ish) be blocked by the Harbourplaza condos. The face to the west is rather bland looking.

What's the plan for the parking lot to the left of the construction site?

I dont think its their headquarters. Unlike the other 4 major banks who are mostly consolidated into towers within close proximity to each other, RBC has offices at watermark, the RBC Dexia lightbox tower, 2 towers at RBC plaza (their HQ), as well as an office on Front near the convention centre.

All the banks are spread out throughout the downtown area. RBC is in several towers on Front by the convention centre. It is my understanding those offices will be transferred to this new building.

On second viewing, I think I saw the Ice condos as one of the futuristic background buildings in Guardians of the Galaxy.

Sarcasm is best left for face to face interactions. It's not suited to text at all.

My sarcasm is very dry, it doesn't translate well online.
