The storm is starting now - latest forecast was revised downward a bit. Totals are still the same, but the pockets of 40-50+cm are now very unlikely here. We'll probably be 20-35cm.

This means nothing to anyone, but hey, if you think something nice, say it: if you know the McCarthy's of Portugal Cove-St. Philip's, my parents were there for supper with a fine crowd and I texted to let them know to drive back to the city as soon as the snow starts; it's doing to get treacherous VERY quickly. And they were already home. The McCarthy's rescheduled for an hour earlier than planned at the last minute, to make sure all their guests could do so. Love that. Respect.

Back in Moncton after Christmas at the cottage on the lake.

It will be classified as a green Christmas, but, snow started in Wentworth about 2 PM, and we had a couple of squall lines pass through on Christmas evening (counterclockwise northeasterly winds over the gulf and strait generated by the storm over Newfoundland), laying down about 7-8 cm of snow. Christmas day thus finished with a reasonable amount of snow on the ground.

Grandchildren and dogs really appreciated the family Christmas on the lake. The highlight was probably watching some of the neighbours skating on the frozen lake on Christmas Day before the snow started.

Family is what Christmas is all about.

-15C with a wind chill of -18 and overcast. So cold. This December will finish significantly below normal. It will be the second consecutive month below normal. Yikes.

Low of -21C (wind chill of -24) this morning. Absolutely no intention of going outside.

The warmspot were Saturna Island and White Rock, BC at 7.6C.

Warmest low was White Rock, BC at 3.7C.

Historic heatwave in much of the US. Canada acting like a wall yet again. Only Northwestern Ontario has some of that air. Also of note, the biggest cold anomaly around the island of Montreal. The number of times it has happened the past 2 months is disturbing.

But how many months over the last few years has the temperature been above normal. We've had months and months and years of above average temps so two months of 'below average' temps is only ever so slightly bringing the temps back closer to average.

It's been partly cloudy in Vancouver today, cold for here, a high of about 3°C.

What site do you guys use to get the average temperature per winter month for last winter? And snowfall. And does it also show the historical average? Im specifically looking for Tillsonburg, ON.

Great photo.

It looks like we sink down to -1 tonight but it warms up after that. I wonder if we’ll get through a winter with no Arctic Outbreak?

Climate is warming. One month below normal will happen and is to be expected at some point. 2 straight months is getting notesworthy in this day and age.

-9C with a wind chill of -14 and sunny. Nice sunshine. Not nice temperature.

Low of -13C (wind chill of -23) this morning. There were some lingering clouds but they were long cleared before I woke up.

The warmspot was Kindakun Rocks, BC at 7.8C

Warmest low were Sisters Island and Entrance Island, BC at 3.3C.

Fantastic Kelowna and St. John's photos - great work by the photographers and they're also two of my favourites in terms of natural settings that are quite distinctive, immediately recognizable and beautiful. Of course Vancouver ain't no slouch, lol.

There's a chance Victoria (city not the airport) will fall below freezing for the first time this winter. If we get through tonight we're clear into January.

A ton of rain this month in Victoria, far more than usual - but as of today the average high for the month has been 9.2 with an average low of 6.0. Daffodils popping up, some plum blossoms out, and a few roses, rhodo flowers, magnolia and other buds popping. Of course I know as soon as I say this I will bring on an arctic outflow - the curse that I bear and bring.

Cold. At least it remained calm and dry while I was out and about.

Saturday's high at Vancouver Harbour was 4 C, the low was 1 C.

The Vancouver skyline with those gorgeous snowy mountains is spectacular. It's absolutely breathtaking!

The colder than normal temps continue and we have a yellow alert for possible freezing rain tomorrow when the temp is forecast to reach a high of 1 c. NYE forecast high is -3 so outdoor revelers will have to bundle up.

-6C and sunny in Moncton at 11 AM.

Just like in Halifax, we have a yellow alert warning for tomorrow for freezing rain.

Precipitation will start as ice pellets near noontime tomorrow, transitioning to freezing rain about 5 PM, then to rain about 9 PM. Rain will continue overnight. Total freezing rain amounts will probably be in the vicinity of 5 mm, so there is probably little risk of power outages, and, the ice coating will melt as temperatures rise to +4C overnight.

The rest of the forecast period is pretty benign, but cold.

Gander via FB. Central NL and the West Coast have a more mainland climate - distinct seasons with warmer summers, but colder winters. So the past two storms that were half rain for us actually accumulated fully as snow there.
