A few of Halifax.

This one's fuzzy but shows a lot of construction (9 buildings under construction or finished in the last year):

Do you consider Halifax to be your favourite city? Just wondering since you still seem to take a huge interest in it even though you haven't lived there for so many years.

A city in a temperate climate with little sun but beautiful vistas might have buildings with wedge-shaped floorplates oriented towards the view, widely spaced and cladded in as much transparency as possible to let in the light, and have abundant growing surfaces to take in the precipitation. Construction and materials should reflect local resources. There are many ways to interpret and express these functional needs, but often certain strategies prevail due to their economy.
But why would any of those things need to be added artificially for the sake of aesthetics? When you previously mentioned "a unifying vision", it sounded less like individual architects/developers independently designing buildings based on functional considerations within their context, and more like a municipality intentionally including cohesion as an aesthetic urban design element. Perhaps it was just an unfortunate choice of wording.
I mean a "unifying vision" as in the above considerations should be formalized in building bylaws that incentivize developers into making those things a priority rather than doing place-less architecture. Paris is full of mansard roofs not because builders had to do mansard roofs, but because building height restrictions were only measured to the cornice line. For Vancouver it could be extra density per square foot of planted terraces. Every room must have a 15-degree view deeper than 200 feet measured from 5 feet inside. Subsidies for cross-laminated timber construction. List goes on. Developers would be too busy to fuck around with balcony patterns.

Some Vancouver photographers should get some shots from the East Van "cross" by VCC Clark station, and then from Lonsdale. With a good camera those two angles could turn out really well and are different than the typical view from across False Creek. I have take several on my phone but the quality is nowhere near up to par

Love that top Calgary shot, it shows some older structures which one usually doesn't see in a skyline photo. The Montreal shots are lovely as well...although those rooftop climbing folks are certainly putting a problematic matter into some peoples laps.

Depends on what you mean by that. It's not the city that I think is the best but I also don't view cities that way; they are all different. I like to follow development there as a hobby. I do think it's special in terms of having a nice combination of historic features and lots of new development. I tend not to be interested in suburban development (in Halifax or elsewhere) or urban stuff that feels larger in scale and soulless (which Halifax mostly does not have because it is smaller).

I like following other cities on here too but there are others who post about them.
