It got mild enough that I can't see any snow anywhere around me downtown. I assume the piles on suburban parking lots are still there.

Another day with screaming winds for a few hours. I forgot what that's like - it used to be SO normal here. All of my planted trees are fine, at least, as the angles lately have been unusual and straight around all of the protection downtown has to blow right across the park into the back of my house.

Same here in the other SJ. No more snow to be found after the crazy weather yesterday. I think yesterday was the windiest day I’ve experienced since moving here that wasn’t considered hurricane related. Many trees down today across the city.

I still need to get some garlic in the ground before Christmas, but that shouldn’t be a problem.

Was it this windy yesterday in Newfoundland and Labrador too?

New Brunswick’s Grand Manan island recorded 135 kph gusts in last nights “warm” wind storm. It was twice as warm as Vancouver yesterday in Halifax and Saint John yesterday where it reached +12… but also must have been 5 times windier.

The entire Maritimes was subjected to quite the onslaught of wind and rain, but it took away all the snow… meanwhile in my hometown:

I think some maritimers think I’m joking when I say I appreciate the long fall season and relatively balmy winter weather here in Saint John, but I really do.

Yes, the humidity and sea breezes can hit you a little harder than the drier prairie winds of winter… but I’ve felt -55 with the windchill before, and Atlantic Canada is definitely lucky it basically never has to deal with temperatures that cold.

I sure do miss the outdoor hockey rinks of Winnipeg though… the City of Saint John doesn’t flood a single outdoor hockey rink with boards and uses this “milder winter weather” as an excuse not to do better in this area, even though milder cities like Halifax have programs for outdoor hockey rinks with natural ice. Some in Saint John claim it’s just too mild for outdoor rinks here… yet here in the very same city, it’s cold enough to have ice fishing shacks up for a month or two on the river each winter.

The maritimes might be one of the milder winter regions in Canada, but in the middle of winter, it can be very icy, while the Nor’easters of January and February dump some of the wettest and heaviest snow I’ve ever had to shovel.

Grazie, amico mio. Have you ever seen snow there in Sicilia? I assume it exists way up the mountains?

Sorry SignalHillHiker, but there's something strange in this photo. Your clothesline seems to be touching the rain gauge of your weather station. Is it a optical illusion or are they actually attached?

Thank you, my friend, for your valuable information about the climate characteristics (and other topics) of your city. For me, it's pure ASMR! In Sicily, snow falls on the highest mountains (let's say above 800 meters in elevation) every winter, although it’s only above 1,400 meters that the snow can last for several weeks, and in a few more sheltered geographic areas, for more than a month. Of course, on the coastal mountains, snow falls at higher altitudes, but there are winters where it can snow even below 500 meters.

But in some rare, historic winters, the miracle happens: the snow manages to reach the plains and the coasts of Sicily, even if only for a few hours. :saluti: A true miracle of Nature, something that leaves Sicilians in awe. However, we are talking about events that happen on average once every 10 years (normally, even during these rare snowfalls, temperatures remain above freezing; sub-zero temperatures on the Sicilian coasts are even rarer than the snow itself) and in some parts of southern Sicily, only once every 30 to 50 years. It’s just a few centimeters of snow that melt as soon as the clouds make way for the Sun, but they stay in people's memories forever. Even Palermo, throughout its history, has recorded some very rare snowfalls.

+4C and light rain in Moncton at 11 AM.

Despite the long cold spell earlier in December, there is a fair chance we will have a green Christmas in Moncton.

There are some flurries expected between now and Christmas, but, it is up in the air just how much accumulation we will get.

Nice little Facebook video of the skating surface of the Ian Fowler Oval on the plaza in front of the Avenir Centre in downtown Moncton.

https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1Yt...ibextid=wwXIfr

A popular free public skating surface. This will be the focus of New Year's celebrations in the city. The Wildcats will be playing Chicoutimi at the Avenir Centre that day (#1 and #2 in the QMJHlL). There will also be skating and a free public concert on the plaza, as well as food vendors, hot chocolate and, of course, fireworks.

In Vancouver, it's been cloudy and raining a lot, with a high of about 8°C today.

Did some Christmas shopping, here's a festive store parking entrance corridor.

/\ Race Rocks is a lighthouse off Victoria, so yah, it felt about 12 today - sunny all day until the late afternoon when the rain returned.

Went for a walk and noticed a couple of Santa's reindeers appeared to have arrived too early..

Nice video. Victoria is just lovely in the winter.

I used to go there as a kid every Boxing Day for a week to see my grandparents. I remember back in 1996, we had to cancel our trip due to a historic snowfall. I think Victoria got two feet of snow. My grandparents were trapped in their house for a couple of days.
