CTV article from today about AF being extended through the summer. End of the article states it will continue to operate on the B789, but the A330 is still loaded as far as I can tell.

Which aircraft served the route typically?

Fairchild Metro 19 seaters up to 4x on weekdays during the Bearskin era. In the pre-deregulated era, it was a daily AC DC-9.

With enough potential connecting traffic, a daily PD YSB-YOW will be feasible.

That was quite a route - YOW-YYB-YSB-YAM-YQT. It still runs, just not continuing to YOW.

Disappointed with the fact they are still 5x weekly in the summer yet daily starting shoulder season. It doesn’t really make sense unless they are tight on frame availability.

If they are actually going with the B789 this summer (though I'm very skeptical that CTV article is accurate) then that's still pretty good news for us. Dropping to the 330 for the summer 5x daily and then switching to the B789 daily for next winter is a little weird for sure -- that's a 72.5% increase in weekly capacity.

But even the daily B789 I'd consider to be a boilerplate schedule until it's actually announced, you figure them going daily would have a little fanfare around it.

It definitely is good news that the 332 is being dropped for the 789. However, the article doesn’t state that it was announced by OIAA or AF themselves. Maybe it’s just someone from CTV checking Google Flights haha. Hoping there’s still a chance for daily this summer.

For sure. Much bigger market, so if you could set up reasonable connections to major US cities and western Canada, you could draw a lot of people looking to avoid the drive to Pearson (or just to avoid Pearson).

I wish PD would build up and treat YOW in the manner CO/UA treated CLE -> as a city with solid local demand augmented with connecting traffic in an easier-to-navigate airport than the large, close hub (EWR)

Don't have to be Elon Musk to think PD should have DH4s ready to depart every large metro in Atlantic Canada 6a-630am bound for YOW. Add in Quebec city, North bay etc 4-5 weekly

They all arrive into YOW around 730a.

Have an 830am domestic bank exYOW (YTZ, YWG, YYC, YEG, YVR)

9am bank USA bank exYOW (allowing more time to clear US customs) (FLL, MCO, BOS, EWR, MDW, seasonal LAX and LAS)

Theses could all be reversed each evening with DH4s all departing YOW for Atlantic canada around 9pm

YYZ/YTZ should be 85% O/D

The YOW experience is 10x more civilized and easier than YUL/YYZ in the exact manner CLE was a breeze compared to EWR/IAD when flying CO/UA

Travellers will learn in today's age of information. Ottawa is not a gold mine of big spenders and corporate travel. it is a gold mine of an affluent local base and copmaritve gold mine experience vs what YUL and YYZ have been for some time now

Correct me if I’m wrong but when connecting from a transboarder flight in YOW, you need to leave the secured area and go through security again for your domestic flight. Granted security at YOW isn’t terrible (especially when the verified traveller lane is open), but it’s nice being able to bypass it altogether.

Also, will YOW check your bag through to/from your transboarder flight, or do you need to collect it and check it again?

I’ve got a summer booking with them and it’s still showing the 332. If I get a change notification showing 789, will post.

That is correct about re-clearing security at YOW but it’s not that big a deal. Maybe if PD someday start pumping thru 1/4 million or more transborder connections that the Airport Authority would like at setting up sterile transfers like at the big three airports.

As for bags, domestic to transborder, bag retrieval/transfer was eliminated years ago. However, transborder/international to domestic/international still requires a bag transfer. It’s easy though as connecting pax with luggage go left instead of right upon exiting customs to the bag transfer belt. All pax then proceed to clear domestic/international security.

The upgauge of AC342/345 YVR-YOW-YVR from a 7M8 to a 789 begins today on AC. It's still loaded through the end of February, except for a few random days (Jan 12, 26, 27, Feb 16, 17, 25, 26).

Back when it was running sporadically in September, it parked side-by-side with the AF A332. It's currently assigned to gate 28 so opposite end of the terminal from AF at gate 15. Not surprising with sun season in full force, they likely need all the swing gates.

Today’s cancellation count (so far): 7 - all AC who seem to be proactively cancelling flights ahead of the storm.

Update: now up to 11 cancellations on the day with 3 AC cancelled already tomorrow morning.

Over the next few weeks AC will have a few one-off Jetz 320 aircraft scheduled on YOW flights to/from YYZ & one to YUL (some subbing on regular flight numbers while others are one-off flight #s): https://www.aeroroutes.com/eng/231228-ac1q24320
