Arniel wasn't my first choice either, but after Bones laid down the foundation, along with the announcement and press conference on Monday, and of course, the firing of Brad Lauer, my confidence in him and the team has increased a bit.

Although with talks of Ehlers as trade bait, and some players like Dillon looking to play elsewhere come July 1st, I'm a tad nervous.

At the same time, we could finally see Heinola being in the line up permanently, and hopefully have a further look at Lambert and Salminen at Training Camp and maybe on Opening Night.

Top talent is drafted. Crosby, McKinnon, on and on, McDavid, Drai, Auston Mattews, I'll stop now.

It’s gotta be a kick in the teeth to Jets management when the coach they just lost 2 years ago has gone to the Stanley Cup Final 2 years in a row. Florida has a great team, but the Jets finished 4th in the league this year. We should have had a better fate than getting blown out of the first round.

It’s unfortunate that he easiest thing for a team to do is change coaches, and I understand that all coaches have a shelf life before their message gets stale. I guess what I am saying is that the management of the Jets and it’s players seems to be the big issue.

It got better after getting rid of Wheeler and PLD, but there is still some issue with effort and grit.

The Panthers work as hard as any team I have seen, much like the Hurricanes. The Av’s outworked us in every facet of the game. This is why we loose.

I tend to disagree. Paul Maurice was the second longest tenured coach in the NHL when he chose to step down. The Jets did not fire him, he chose to step down, as rumours of locker room dissent were rapid. The Jets were wise to have him as the head coach for 8 years.

With Bowness, it is all but certain that his health is the reason for his resignation. He is 69, had to take a month off this season, and probably was told by doctors to quit coaching,as it was bad for his health. I'm not very fond of Arniel as a replacement, but I guess we will have to see how it turns out.

I personally would love to see Maurice win a Stanley Cup. He deserves it.

I think we actually agree.

I realize that he resigned. That in itself should have been a huge wake-up call to the Jets management. I like Maurice and hope he wins the cup as well. There is an issue in the room and they partially addressed it over the last two years.

My point is that the Jets had a really good team this year and shouldn't have been blown out in the first round.

There's no participation ribbon for having the 4th best record in the regular season. It means nothing if that success cannot be replicated in the post-season.

No shit. That's why people are complaining. Nobody cares about 'participation ribbons', the team should have played better. This is a normal complaint across any fanbase in any league.

Maurice had to fire himself from a team that couldn't get it's shit together. Went to a team that got it's shit together and again is on the verge of a Cup.

Meanwhile in Winnipeg..

I'd prefer Maurice to win over Edmonton.

Incredibly classy shout-out to the Jets and Winnipeg from Paul Maurice after the Panthers won the Stanley Cup last night:

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manit...-cup-1.7245603

This is all over the local media, though, unsurprisingly, a quick scan of the national media has nothing on Maurice's comment.

First and foremost I'm delighted for Paul Maurice. I always thought he was a classy guy and a great coach, and it's great to see him get the Cup.

While I was cheering for Maurice, I feel kind of bad for the Oilers fans. Coming back down 0-3 was pretty incredible, and to lose it by one goal in the last game must be a kick in the gut.

As a Jets fan, I'm glad the potential is still there for the local team to be the one to break the Canada drought, though they will have some work to do before that's realistic.

I suspect there are a few Jets fans (and perhaps players) who are wondering "what might have been". If their guts are churning a bit this morning, I have to admit I don't feel sorry for them at all. Paul Maurice was a great coach and an incredible defender of the city. It was very sad to hear him say he just couldn't reach the players an more.

I agree, class act. Very sad when he decided to go, I didn't think he was really the problem in the Jets' lockerroom at all. It was really nice to watch him get his cup, Oilers made it a fun series to watch. Gotta hand it to the NHL for full entertainment value on the finals, was a lot of fun.

Hope the Jets can be more competitive next year. I hate to say it, but I am worried this might be a repeat of the 80s with the Jets having to get by a star-studded cast of Oilers in the playoffs and not quite being able to make it to the main dance.

That's precisely what I am worrying about with my comment. That the Jets are going to have to play stacked Oilers' teams to either get out of the first round or win the west what have you. Obviously they have a lot of work to do first. Not dismissing that in the least.

Edmonton is going to implode in a couple years. They can't afford Nug, McJesus and Leon all at once anymore. The cap hit will be insane.

^ no one is afraid of that wiener kid Nuge.

But cap wise the Oilers are gonna need to get creative, especially based on the salary they are paying Nurse and what they are going to need to pay Bouchard. Plus some continued uncertainty (or maybe inconsistent) goaltending.

Honestly I am somewhat glad the Oilers collapsed. After they won game 6 all of Canadian media was non-stop about how unprecedent it was for this sort of comeback and how historic it would be if the Oilers won. If they had finished the come back we would literally never hear the end of it. With Florida getting the win this series will mostly be forgot in a few months.

As a fan it is definitely a little bittersweet. This season the Jets had an incredible run of games in December and January. In the late season stretch there was a time they had a realistic opportunity of first in Central and even first in the Division. Colorado really brought it in Game 1 but the Jets really steppe up and kept pace that game. Then Game 2 happened. I was at Game 1 in person and could feel what the crowd was like then and it was wild. If the Jets were in the Oilers place I can definitely empathize with their fans.

As we move towards the draft and free agency I feel uncertainty if the Jets will be able to have as successful a season again next year yet I remain hopeful. If the White Sox and the Cubs can end their droughts the Jets will one day win a Cup. The Leafs on the other hand...

There is very little mathematical probability that the Oilers and Jets will meet in the first round. They are in 2 different divisions, and the only way they would meet, is if one were division champion, and one were a wildcard team. It's not like the 80s, where the Jets were almost guaranteed to play Edmonton to get out of the Division. Even if the Jets do get out of their division, there is no team that is a perennial Stanley Cup favourite in the West since the Chicago Blackhawks (2009-15). Aside from that, we all know what happned when the Jets and Oilers last met in 2021.

Having said that, I could not watch the game at home, as I cut my cable. So I went out to the Tavern United to watch Game 7. We saw the Maurice interview about 5 minutes before we left. At least a dozen people sporadically broke out in applause, when Maurice mentioned that he wanted to see the Winnipeg Jets win the Stanley Cup. The last time I had seen anything like it, was when Anaheim beat Ottawa in 2007, while I was working weekends as a cook in Calgary. Teemu Selanne hoisted the cup for the Ducks (the only time he won one in his career), and I guess there were quite a few Manitoba-born people at the place, as quite a few started applauding, and two shouted "GO JETS GO!"

Regardless of how the team was performing, Maurice was always a class act.
