Really? What, do I go to the security guard at the 12-foot high gate and say I just want to stroll along the river?

harryc, great shot. You also captured a metra train and a green line train. A city in motion! Well done.

It seems that this building is shooting up faster then it's reinforced concrete residential neighbors. Is this the norm for steel highrises?

Yep. Both concrete and steel have their 'selling points'. Concrete orders can be executed relatively quickly but that will result in longer construction time. Contrarily, steel fabrication can take a very long time and needs to be ordered well before it's needed. It however, once delivered, does result in faster construction time.

No the core has been at 19 for a week or more now. But I see them working on top today.

The floors in the garage have been poured ( at least some of them ) over the past week, soon we should see the raker beams cut up and removed.

Core rising

The core has gone up another level

Oct 12 - ramp down from surface ( note raker beams still in place ).

Oct 14 - Spacious lower level

From Upper LaSalle

I read somewhere that curtainwall installation was supposed to start in September. I thought that this was a bit ambitious. Any revised schedule out there? Looks like they haven't even finished fireproof-spraying the steel on the lobby level yet.

generally are steel structure frames faster to build then those composed mostly of concrete? I really do like the design and all...but seems to be at snails pace? Comparing this to the Waterview, it has a larger footprint, but was also started before the Waterview and its catching up to this Lasalle building quickly? Any major reasons why?

^^Do we always have to do this whenever a building isn't growing fast enough for somebody? For the longest, people were complaining that Waterview wasn't moving as fast as 300 N. LaSalle. Now we're complaining that 300 N. LaSalle isn't moving as fast as Waterview?

Look down in the hole - sometimes the real action isn't at the top.

And the concrete core went up a floor today.

Raker Beams coming out

The first of the "raker beams" have been cut out and removed. It would appear that while the top was idle they have been busy finishing up the basement floors ( which now hold the walls apart ).
