Cloudy and a cool -2 at 12pm. Snow will start late this afternoon, mixed with ice pellets, possibly changing to rain overnight. Still a lot of uncertainty.

0C in Moncton at 11 AM.

We are in our eighth hour of light freezing rain, but, although the surfaces are slippery, there has not really been that much accumulation. It is supposed to transition to snow within the next couple of hours. We may end up with 15 cm of the white stuff.

EC's Bedford Basin weather station is still not reporting temperature so Halifax Dockyard it is... high yesterday was 4.5, low this morning was 2.4 and sitting at 3.1 at 11 am in heavy fog. TWN is indicating our next below 0 high will come on the 6th of January and continue for 3 days. These next two days will bring showers, mixed precipitation and flurries but remain above zero throughout.

This drives home the climate change discussion and the idea that a lot of the old weather data is really outdated. The 2010 YHZ airport data (30 km inland, 145 m in elevation, and averaged around 1995) lists 55 <= 0 per year for example. The right explanation there isn't that the 15 days are some epic outlier event (following outlier after outlier), it's that the YHZ data doesn't reflect conditions that can be expected in the city these days, in part due to the degree or so of warming that has happened generally. If there is a warmer El Nino winter running through January/February the record could be broken again in 2024.
The lack of cold was notable here too. Only 6-7 below 0 highs in SW Ontario during 2023. Someone should check Toronto and Montreal totals. I don't know what the "normal" number of <0 highs is, but it's probably over 40.

Chilly. We went for a run out around the airport. I'm home and dying from the waist down.

The sun is poking out and it's currently 4.9 degrees, but rain is expected tonight. This morning's low was 1.8, the first time it's dropped below 4 degrees in nearly a week.

Sorry for the poor quality but a shot showing how little snow is on Vancouver's North Shore mountains.

More of the same stuff today. Mild, fog, mist, etc. Went up into the Canadian Shield.

Today was another rainy day, 6C as our high. We're heading down to a low of -2C tonight.
I walked to the grocery store, taking the scenic route. The rain was spitting until around 4 pm, when we had genuine showers.

2C and drizzly.

Low of 1C this morning. 5th consecutive day with a low above freezing.

The warmspot was Sheringham Point, BC at 16.5C. It's been super mild in BC as well (much like the rest of Canada).

Warmest low was Sheringham Point, BC at 11.4C.

Thought I finally escaped the rain. Of course, it still did spit today in Oakville and Mississauga but no need to cover your head. Then I hit the road and when I got to Markham at 3:30 it was raining properly for a couple of hours. Think that's been the entire week so far.

There's still ladybugs infiltrating the house.

How many ways are there to describe the same kind of day?
Overcast, calm, very mild and a few sprinkles here and there off and on.

Friday's high at Vancouver Harbour was 12 C, the low was 9 C.

OMG, after 5 nonstop foggy rainy days, it's cooler and merely overcast. I think I'm going back to NY State to begin 2024. I do feel more at home amongst Americans for some reason: friendlier, more direct and less politically correct.

I wish Canadian C cities like St John's, Kitchener Waterloo, Brantford, Saskatoon etc hadn't built those "economic booster" high rises in the 1960s-90s. In St John's, I'd advocate for their destruction and rebuild everything how it was 100 years ago.

Cooler today but still overcast. Looks like we have some sun coming in a couple days. It's been awhile.

Lake Ontario has taken on a milky turquoise colour today. Curious if this is just a location based thing or what.

0C early this afternoon. Still cloudy. Getting tired of it but at least I have green grass to lighten my mood.

1C last night.

The warmspot was White Rock, BC at 15.0C.

Warmest low was Race Rocks Lightstation, BC at 9.7C. Low is not official as the temp will keep falling before midnight.
