That was an interesting first goal.

Still not qualified and there's still two very tough matches in Costa Rica and Panama. Costa Rica is playing better and it's not over for them. I expect that to be a very tough match. Then Jamaica at home which is hopefully the clinching game for Canada making for a hopefully meaningless game in Panama.

Incredibly proud of this team and the effort they continue to put forward. Not technically qualified yet but Panama have a tough remaining window (versus Canada and the US) and we play Costa Rica first up, followed by an eliminated Jamaica team which will have trouble getting their European players to commit to a pointless window. Would take an incredible, all-timer bottle job to not qualify at this stage.

Nothing confirmed yet. Because Canada is flying from Costa Rica prior to and Panama after it's likely the match will be in Southern Ontario. Probably BMO, but still TBD at this point. There's a gap in TFC's schedule that week - they host at BMO on March 19 and then again on April 2.

On top of one of the biggest collapses in sporting history if we can't even make Top 3 (Realistically we only need a single draw out of 3 games IMO), we get to play New Zealand to qualify as mathematically we can't finish worst than 4th. Which, in spite of the dubious accuracy of FIFA rankings is 110th... that's well below everyone in the entire Octagonal. Heck they're below a few teams not in the Octagonal. And that's assuming they are the ones out of their confederation, once in a while another team makes it instead and everyone else from that region is basically Cayman Islands level.

ELO has New Zealand at 80th, just behind El Salvador at 77. That's probably more fair to them. This assumes NZ beats Papua-New Guinea and French Caledonia, though, and given what I know about the OFC and WCQ nothing is guaranteed, as you correctly point out.

Anyone else going to try to get to Qatar? I submitted my application for the ticket lottery for the 3 Canadian group matches. Now I just have to convince my wife it's a good idea....

I've certainly looked at it myself. And then when I saw the flight costs, I realised I'll just stay in Toronto and spend the equivalent amount on beer. Being there would be absolutely incredible though.

If the Euro's were any indication, a handful (or more) of World Cup games will be just what the pubs here need after months of restrictions.

I'm considering going at the moment - friend of mine is in the ticket lottery and may end up getting a few. I'd love to go but it depends on a lot of factors at this stage.

Toronto is crazy during World Cups when Canada isn't playing - place is going to be insane when Canada starts playing matches (especially if we end up in a group with England or Italy/Portugal...). I'm guessing Nathan Phillips, Yonge-Dundas, and Maple Leaf Square could all host viewing parties, but given that it's a November WC it'll really put a damper on what would have otherwise been a massive summer event.

Iké Ugbo joins Ligue 1 Troyes from Genk - Loan with option to buy

ESTAC Troyes have completed the transfer of Canadian men's national team player Iké Ugbo. The Ligue 1 side made the transfer official late on deadline day Monday. Ugbo will join the French club on loan from KRC Genk until the end of the season, Troyes then have an option to make the transfer permanent at the end of the season.

Ugbo joined Genk last summer from Premier League side Chelsea in a deal worth €3.5 million. Although the striker managed 25 appearances this season (six goals), Ugbo only played 910 minutes overall. The 23-year-old committed to play for Canada last fall but needs consistent minutes to break into the national team first team XI, which includes strikers Cyle Larin and Jonathan David. With a market value of €3.5 million, Ugbo is currently ranked among the 25 most valuable Canadians.

Iké Ugbo Centre-Forward Market Value $3.85m

Is Jason Kenney burying Edmonton's World Cup chances?
It’s the second largest sports event in the world to the Olympics. Somebody should make sure Kenney is aware of that.

Canada returns to Toronto for all-important FIFA World Cup Qualifiers match on March 27 2022
canadasoccer.com February 18, 2022

Canada will play their final home match in the Concacaf Final Round of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers at BMO Field in Toronto, Ontario on 27 March 2022. The Sunday afternoon fixture comes in the middle of a three-match FIFA window for the Men’s National Team who will face Costa Rica away on 24 March, Jamaica at home on 27 March, and then Panama away on 30 March. Ticket details will be announced in the coming weeks for the pivotal FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ Qualifiers match. The Canada home match kicks off at 16.00 local time.

Canada sits undefeated at the top of the table in the Concacaf Final Round of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers with 25 points after 11 matches. Canada have won six matches in a row dating back to their last home match in Toronto on 13 October against Panama. Canada are now four points up on both USA and Mexico and eight points ahead of fourth-place Panama.

Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team are undefeated in 19 consecutive matches at BMO Field since 1 June 2011, including three matches in the Concacaf Final Round of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. In the most recent FIFA window, Canada won away in Honduras for the first time since 1985, beat USA in FIFA World Cup Qualifiers for the first time since 1980, and won away in El Salvador for the first time since 1996. Canadian fans continue to show their ardent support for the Men’s National Team in the stands, online and through record viewership across all broadcast platforms including OneSoccer, Sportsnet and RDS.

All matches in Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team World Cup Qualifiers will be broadcast LIVE on OneSoccer, including TELUS channel 980, onesoccer.ca, Sportsnet and RDS. Fans will find extended coverage across Canada Soccer’s digital channels on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube featuring the hashtag #CANMNT.

Great to see Henry back in North America. Was tough to get viewings when he was playing in Korea.

Also good to see Eustaquio getting minutes with Porto. Couple late subs in the last few league matches.

Maybe as many as he has had with the NT under Herdman. None.
