If the people at the FAA are getting full medical insurance with their jobs there - I assume they do, then I really wish they'd get an eye exam. It's disheartening to think there are Austin FAA permits floating around in other cities. Btw, I've seen the same thing happen before where Austin buildings were listed in San Antonio's search forms. Ugh.

The map is correct. Person typing must of thought no way Austin would be getting a 1000 footer so they improvised.

Elevations have been made available from an anonymous source and fellow skyscraper enthusiast. The height will very depending on how it's measured, but I get 1,022'.

Well look at that. It’s real and it’s happening.

Also — looks like the rendering we saw from the Houston forum is the correct one.

There are three underground levels, and the hotel levels are part of the parking podium. That's a good way to hide a parking podium. A second FAA building permit was filed for a height of 185' which must be the parking podium/hotel.

Are we thinking a couple years of approvals before ground breaking?

I would say about year which is typical for big projects. But I don't know if it could be sooner because they are revising an approved site plan. Either way, it's the financing that will probably dictate the timing of the groundbreaking more than permitting.

How long did it take from the announcement of the Independent till it broke ground? I seem to recall being stunned how fast it was.

No. It wasn't "fast." The project was announced in its original form in late spring 2013.

And, buildings including Hotel/office space function a bit differently. The independent is all condos, so it depends on sales, and the residential real estate market.

A hotel/office building can get financed with a hotel partner, or a large pre-leased tenant, respectively. If this one has either of those two already, itt'l likely go fairly quickly. I think a better comparison is the timeline of 6xGuad, or Block 185.

So yeah, it's the first rendering we saw, but it looks like it has more of a curve than you could see from that set. There's a protrusion from the SW corner that sweeps back and up, narrowing the lower segment as it rises, but then the upper segment actually goes from narrow to wider toward the south on the upper floors. The point of the roof structure follows this curve.

This one, like the sail, is going to be hard to wrap your head around until we see some better renderings / 3D models.

The roof structure looks like a P Terry's. Let's petition to make it an observation deck / burger joint!

I like it. I liked the first rendering way more than the second one that showed the other buildings. Second one kinda looked cheap tbh IMO...

So this thing has 25 floors of office space. Is this all being done on spec?

I know I'm in the minority but I like the design of the building from the first picture more. Glass looks good both day and night, especially with light purple-silver panel glass.

The brick pattern? Is this really in "demo" mode? Meaning it's real possibility to be built?

These renderings all appear to be for the 14th level office amenities level. The hotel amenities levels are 14 and 15 on the other side of the podium.
