According to a Brookfield press release it will be completed Q3 2017. That is just the East tower.

Brookfield Place is moving along quicker than I expected! Almost at ground level and at this pace I expect it to be topped out by 2016.

Even if it tops out by 2016, it still takes a while for the interior systems (ie: HVAC, elevators, fire suppression) to be installed, tested and finished.
Then the tenants have to reno & decorate, so Grand Opening will likely be after the summer in 2017.

Not yet officially 'at grade'. The developer cannot safely lock the door and walk away, which is why the distinction is so important for project insurance and financing.
Anyone remember the Bay-Adelaide Center development in Toronto? It hit grade about 1990, and then sat for a decade after the developer pulled out. Had a four or five story core completed at that stage.

Are you suggesting this is likely at Brookfield Place?

Incidents like Bay-Adelaide can happen. Water tower in Chicago halted midstream and it was something like 30 floors up already, but with a large single tenant signed to a long term lease, it's highly unlikely Brookfield Place would halt. All of the developments going on in Calgary are backed by larger developers and will probably be okay during this downturn. Last downtown we had three different projects come to a halt, but all three were small inexperienced developers that had good sales but mismanaged the projects badly and ran them aground.

I think this tower will prove a positive addition to the appearance of Calgary's skyline. Suncor will look less ugly as part of a cluster.

Agreed, but it'll be the ugly duckling of the big four towers (Bow, Telus Sky, BP)
