It's a pretty cool place. I've lived here just over 4 years now and it's a really interesting place in the way that you get to literally watch the development of a place from a regional centre into a cosmopolitan global city. There's a lot going on at the municipal level to change things for the better, some things like the condo recycling program took far too long, but other things like the C-Train being 100% wind-powered came along way ahead of their time. Brookfield Place is a jewel in the skyline but it's also going to improve the public realm with a half acre open air public plaza and retail pavilion in a very high traffic area of the city.

This turned out to be a simple, yet beautiful building, can't wait to see the NY ones

The quality of the glass makes this tower.

Just had a look at the BFP ( it's 9:53 PM ) and saw the really bright work lights. This gives new meaning to bright lights - is the country music in there somewhere??? LOL!!

It's neat to see the new beams sticking up like birthday candles on a cake. Also was neat to see the white trail of a plane that was passing overhead.

I hope Cenovus is making that an observation deck, so they can recoup some of the expense of their lease!

Looking forward to the crown lighting. Just four years ago The Bow took the title as Calgary's tallest.

It will be nice when his little brother ( to BFP 1 ) shows up in the skyline right beside big ( older ) brother.

Now that's getting up close and personal with a building that's under construction. Now you can see how big these beams are up close. What a view from up there. Those steelworkers have nerves to match. They are amazing people.

Very impressive pic there.
Question: What kind of safe guards are put in place to guard against direct lightning strikes on tall buildings??? I thought of it when I saw large clouds ( maybe thunderheads ) in the same field of view on the web cam. There is a lot of metal up there that would attract lightning - I'm pretty sure the crane operators would vouch for that.

There are lightning protection systems which directs the energy of lightning into the ground.

Wow, Calgary looks really dense in that photo!

I've always wanted to visit Calgary, and this photo only makes me want to visit there for a good few weeks, to really appreciate the character of the neighbourhoods and overall urban design of the city. How the core is planned out and developed is very impressive to the likes of a cosmopolitan city, and it would be interesting to see how the city in its own right is managing, with respect to its transit systems, infrastructure, etc, by the means of a trip.

The downtown core is small but very dense. Very few parking lots remain within the core, and I hope they disappear soon!

I think we could still find a spot for a supertall though
That's a really good pic of the core - it's always nice to see it on a nice bright sunny day, especially from the air.
