And you are still misunderstanding me. I never said it wasn't a top 3 place to live, I merely said it wasn't one of the top 3 metropolises by means of population which is clearly the connotation you were making when you said it used to be a city of 400,000 people now it is a top 3 city...

You may not have meant it in a population connotation but then you sure did a piss poor job phrasing it.
What's up with the insults? What you said was inconsiderate. Because you were looking at it solely from your own perspective and not that of someone who doesn't already live in one of Canada's best.

And I didn't do a piss poor job of phrasing it. I didn't put that much effort into what I was saying however because it was a minor point in everything that I was saying only to be taken lightly. No need to get up in a heap about everything and start talking like that. Settle down mister. You need to go have a beverage and count back from ten because you really are getting worked up over nothing.

I don't know how you are thinking im worked up?

Was it something I said?

Trust me it takes a lot more than this silly little discussion to get me worked up.

All I've said to you numerous times is that I meant Calgary is not a top 3 metropolis from a population standpoint, as it was quite easily inferable from your post that that is what you were talking about .

I will quote you directly now:

Quote:
40 years ago Calgary was a town of under 400 000. Now its arguably one of the top 3 Metropolises in the Country.
to which I replied that I didn't think most people would agree.

Then out of nowehere you called my statement ignorant and are now talking about livability?

I understand you are trying to change the argument to make me look foolish, but that is a very difficult thing to do on the internet when what you have said and what I have said is right there in black and white.

So why don't we just agree that you think im ignorant and a prick and move on from this silly little dispute.

Had you said "Not many people in Toronto would agree with that" I wouldn't have said anything. But there are many people across Canada who would much rather live in Calgary than Toronto Montreal or Vancouver. Though most likely many people from Toronto, Vancouver or Montreal wouldn't because they live in top tier cities. That's not to say they're better, but why would anyone move from one top tier city to another without an underlying reason? I have family members who are from Vancouver and now live in Calgary, and think it is a much better place to live. So what you said comes out as completely ignorant, blatant, and inconsiderate. I never said it makes you a prick. Please stop putting words in my mouth.
No where in his post did LC ever claim that not many people would agree with "living in Calgary". He said that not many people would agree that it is a top 3 metropolis in Canada. You're absolutely putting words in his mouth.

I know people who would rather live in Kingston over Toronto because of livability factors, but that doesn't mean that they would argue that Kingston is one of Canada's top 3 metropolises.

You seem to be conflating "top 3 metropolises" with "top 3 places to live", and rather than admit to the inconsistency, you've resorted to calling Torontonians ignorant. Well played.

^ Great Ottawa pic! I love the dense, compact downtown and the great neighbourhoods adjacent... Byward, Lowertown, Sandy Hill, Centretown, the Glebe.

Ramako want to look again at not admitting the consistency. I admitted the word choice was wrong the second post into this rather ridiculous argument. And even after admitting what I said may have been misphrased and explained why it may have been misphrased you keep fixating on it, even after we said it was dropped you continue to drag it on. Sorry I got sucked in again.

And once again. I didn't call all Torontonians ignorant, I stated that what LeftCoaster said is ignorant. He continued to argue with me even after I admitted to saying the wrong word. Really, as if anyone on this forum doesn't know our top 10 largest Metropolitan areas. By saying top 3 anyone who uses this forum would automatically know I am not referring to population, therefore I must be referring to preferential living.

And highlighting my words so as to only see one part of a sentence does nothing but try to once again put a spin on things to make it seem as if I said something I didn't. Why do you keep pushing for this. We already agreed that this was a stupid argument, why keep it going?

And also why are you comparing Kingston to Toronto? That comparison was never made before. You are supposed to be a moderator, not a predator.

It's amazing how much bigger Ottawa feels on the street than it does when looking at its skyline from a distance. It's not very tall but it's definitely compact. It's got street walls that can match up with any city in Canada.

So wait, you're admitting that what you said was worded poorly but are still calling my statement ignorant, even though it clearly was not and I was only misunderstood because youdidn't phrase your arguement properly?

And you're telling Ramko his arguments are childish?

But you also stated that his comments were not surprising because you've heard many Torontonians say similar things. How on earth is that not implying that Torontonians are ignorant? You can try to backtrack and qualify all you want, but your feelings are quite clear, and it's laughable that you can somehow act shocked that the Torontonians in the room took offense to your statements.

So what if I highlighted your words? I also quoted whole paragraphs of yours so that people could easily see the context in which you spoke.

It's called an analogy. People use them when making points in arguments.

What you were saying was ignorant because even after I made clear the meaning of my word -and correcting the terminology- you continued to press the point as if your opinion was fact. That is ignorant. I may have used the wrong word, that doesn't make me ignorant. Everyone on this forum knows full well what our three largest Metro's in the country are. I said top three, not three largest. No one here is stupid. I also made claim that the reason it was "worded poorly" was because it was a minor point that one shouldn't even notice. To point out a minor detail like that would be nothing less than baiting someone for an argument, based on the fact that as I said we all know what the three largest metro's in the country are. The top three metro's is up for debate.

Top three can mean many things. That doesn't mean it was wrong. Had I known that someone would fixate on that I would have expanded on it a little, but should one expand on every little detail when presenting an argument. Sure if we want to read a half hour long post.

I may be a moderator, but I'm also a poster and a Torontonian. I'm free to post my opinions, engage in arguments and be offended when people imply that ignorance is characteristic of people from my city.

1. Why take offence to the word ignorant? Ignorance is simply not knowing something. So when I say that many people in Toronto that I have talked to from my own experiences -while stating over and over again that I am not referring to everyone from Toronto- don't care about Calgary, you could call them ignorant. Why is that insulting.
I have always maintained that this is from my own experience. So, if you said to me you are not shocked by something that a Winnipegger has said because you have heard many Winnipeggers say it before I should be insulted? No. From your experience Winnipeggers see things in a certain light.
Similarly I have been saying over and over that I am not talking about all Torontonians, but that doesn't make me any less surprised when I hear something from someone from Toronto, because I have heard many say the same thing before.
Obviously my feelings aren't clear, because you aren't reading into them properly at all. You are assuming many things, and it is really becoming childish. I am simply trying to explain things, and yet you continue to talk to me in a overly demeaning tone.

When you highlight certain words people fixate on them and that takes it out of context, especially considering the majority of people are just scanning our posts. So yes highlighting certain words completely takes them out of context.

An analogy is comparing two similar things. In no way was your comparison an Analogy. Comparing Kingston to Toronto to contrast Calgary to any of the top 3 cities is like first comparing a Whale Shark to a Whale followed by comparing the whale to a minnow.

You are free to post your opinions but there is no reason for the harsh language and the increasingly aggressive and degrading demeanour.

Indeed.

I know that people are tired of the typical shots of Toronto from the islands, but it's been a while since any ones have been posted. The first one is recent. The second is a little out of date.

What I said is not opinion it is fact. Calgary is not in the top 3 metropolises in terms of population.

I never said anything else.

Here is your entire post:

Does that mean it is automatically a better place to live than Montreal? No. It does however mean that the perception around the previously "Boring" province has altered, and if the Government takes advantage of their new found wealth, Saskatchewan can show some great potential.

It is pretty ignorant to say that nothing would come of this when not 40 years ago Calgary was a town of under 400 000. Now its arguably one of the top 3 Metropolises in the Country.

in 40 years. And you say that it is silly to think that Saskatchewan is actually changing.
No where do you mention livability, so me quoting one one or two sentences does not unfairly paraphrase you. You clearly said top 3 after in the same paragraph concentrated on population. I don't know about where you learned english, but where I come from that would mean you are discussing population.

And no I don't expect you to write out every little detail, but proper formulation of thoughts and arguments is sort of a bare minimum and doesnt take entire pages. In fact it saves entire pages of useless trite like this has become.

You were right about one thing though, no one here is stupid, so feel free to continue calling me ignorant, as I'm sure its quite evident to everyone on this board with the patience to read through this mess that I am not and you are simply trying to twist my words in order to make yourself not look wrong.

I will leave this alone now, as im sure this is becoming quite tiresome to other formers, but in the future maybe work on putting a little more thought into your posts and don't be so quick to call the entire population of a city ignorant.

By the end of summer, ICE Condos should be towering over the Waterclub Condos.

By next year, they will be towering over everything with the exception of the CN Tower. (from this perspective)
