I like the concept and the fact that it is TOD, and I like the look of the buildings. Two complaints I have about it.

1. Nearly every building looks the same. I would love to see every building or at least every block or half block have a different design and exterior treatments.

2. There doesn't seem to be a ton of variety or options. I love that there are plenty of condos and apartments available but I would love to see some Row/townhomes mixed into the area, give each block a slightly different feel.

Don't get me wrong I am glad to see developers providing these options. With the addition of Fireclay, Market Station and Daybreak, this really give those looking for a more urban/TOD feel several options. Obviously CCC will give a downtown options, Market Station will give an urban/new feel, while Fireclay will give a neighborhood TOD options while obviously Day Break will provide that suburban feel while still being more responsible sustainable and TOD.

Yeah, you definitely want to buy from Hamlet Homes' Birkhill @ Fireclay on the other side of the tracks instead. The first condo building is done and the first building of Live/Work townhomes is in for permit and has been released for sale:

Go buy one today!

Daybreak deffinately fits my picture of how suburbs should look like! I love how most of the housing options are dense, then the single houses have much smaller yards than traditional Utah suburban cities. To me, Dakreak is to Salt Lake as Walnut Creek is to San Francisco. It's the perfect suburb - a vibrant down town, lots of trails, relative close proximity to the regional urban center, mass transit options available, etc. Granted, Daybreak doesn't quite have a Walnut Creek-style down town yet, but it will soon! I remember being able to ride my bike down the Iron Hourse Trail in California and not being able to reach the end. That particular trail was 40 miles long. Then it interconnected with other trails on which you could virtually access most parts of the bay. It looks like Daybreak is bringing this into it, which has my full support! Maybe they could connect the Daybreak network to the Jordan River Parkway?? That would help expand to a more regional trail network. Then they could expand the Jordan River Prkwy into Utah county and maybe send some trails out toward Eagle Mountain and Utah Lake. They could do the same up north by building trails along the shores of the GSL.

The Fireclay District is a Murray city RDA project. Hamlet isn't the only developer involved. Hamlet is developing the area west of the TRAX line (called Birkhill @ Fireclay), and this new "Fireclay Villages" is proposed for the area between the TRAX alignment and the Union Pacific tracks.

That Fireclay development looks hecka awesome! Can't wait!!

So, I was browsing the District's (South Jordan) master plan and I must say that I am very excited by what I see! There will be a Barns and Noble where the empty lot is off 114th and the central street of the development, which is nice...But what's MOST EXCITING is that there will be a World Market and Chipotle Grill!!! Just wondering, are there anymore of these here in Utah? I was most dissapointed to not see any when I moved back here, but now I am giddy with enough excitment to dance around in a banana suit. For those who don't know, World Market is an organic grocery store that also sells exotic furnature and home decor. It's kinda (emphasis on the 'kinda') like Whole Foods - speaking of Whole Foods, I just noticed that there is now one in Sugar House!! Are there any others? Holy crap, Utah, you guys are finally catching up with California!!

Here's a link to the District's Master Plan:

Now if we got Trader Joe's to come to Utah, I would never go back to California

HAHA Trader Joe's is a legendary beast here in Utah.. Hailing from California as well all I can say is that trader Joe's is the most fantastic place in the world. You can get a six pack of tall boy's, imported beer for 5.45 and it taste fantastic while getting the best damn tasting food on the planet.. And that is also why Trader Joe's hasn't come to Utah.. They make a lot of money off of selling wine, and beer (which is a big no no in Utah). Think about it.. how many times have you gone into Trader Joe's and not thought about buying a bottle of wine since your there? My family drives to California instead of flying so we can bring back cases of Wine. Anyways there is my rant on why Trader Joe's is god and Utah is somewhat disappointing.. don't get me wrong Utah is great. minus the weeks we have air quality worse then 70's LA (like right now)

There are several chipolte's in the Salt Lake Area, but I am wondering what everyones fascination is with Chipolte. I think they lack somewhat in actual flavor, I personally prefer Cafe Rio, much more than Chipolte, they have much more flavor. Barbacoa is much more similar to Chipolte and it's more local.

That's the one thing that often times bugs me on here is that eveyone says they are all for local businesses and neighborhood retail, but everyone is all up in arms excited for the potential of national chains coming to town. National chains don't make a neighborhood unique, they make it just like any other neighborhood in the country. So rather than get all pee your pants excited because Chipolte has moved in or anticipating In n Out burger coming to town, find some local places to support, like Barbacoa, Cafe Rio, Millie's Drive in on 21st S or Iceberg, I could go on an on. These are the places that make a neighborhood or region unique and interesting.

A bunch of boring chains! World Market offers a small amount of food and the rest is a bunch of overpriced substandard trying to be trendy crap but they do have some really good European chocolates. I have visited Cost Plus World Market for years on business trips to Boise and Denver and those locations seem to attract a lot of people in the market for wine and beer. When in Boise, my company puts me up at a hotel near Cost Plus and a number of times at the Boise store I have run into other Utahns who were there for whatever and they were stocking up on wine and beer to bring back home to Utah.

Well stated! Finally there is someone else on this forum who realizes that local is better than chains.

I think I have brought this up before but since we are on the subject again, how many people on hear have been to a Chili's, Applebees, Olive Garden or TGI Fridays in the last month?

Now, how many of you have been to Red Rock, Martine, Blue or Red Iguana, Tai Siam, Training Table, Hires, Ruth's Diner or one of the many locally owned places in your neighborhood strip mall in the last month?

I 100% agree... I was just out in Denver about a month ago and went to Chipotle and I was like, well.... it will do, but Id rather have some Cafe Rio right now.

My friend that lives in DC came out here to snowboard and he LOVES Rumbi Grill and wishes there was one out there... So we have locations that others want as well

...I do want In N Out though.... cheap and tasty! EZ take out is filling my need until that time though.

Living in Northern Utah county, which is chain central, my wife and I try to go to the local joints. We like Thai Village, Mi Ranchito and a new Japanese place in AF called Yapona.

I went to both Desert Edge and Mazza last weekend. Both great places to take a date. If anyone takes a date to Desert Edge, I highly recommend getting 3 Chicken Enchiladas and splitting them with your date (well, spouse; a date might be too weirded out about sharing food) . One and a half is plenty to fill you up, and they're soooooo tasty! The bill comes to under ten dollars I think, so it's a very inexpensive way to go! Desert Edge is at Trolley Square and Mazza is at 9th and 9th BTW.
