I know-- an upgrade to Babcock is long overdue, especially given the ridiculous traffic in that area when classes are going on. But 1604 has long since become a 4-lane elevated freeway, and there are all sorts of developments in that area that were hard to imagine years ago. In 1984, when my folks moved there so my dad could be close to where he worked (Gram/United Services, which late moved closer to town), you had to drive all the way to Wurzbach to find an HEB, a fast food restaurant, or anything at all. The only think resembling a convenience store around there was Hills and Dales, which actually sold gas back then.

Now that I look at a map, it doesn't seem so close; Theres supposed to be one behind the Freetail off NW Military/1604, saw a sign back there the other day.

It is near the future UTSA Park West campus (athletics complex).

A friend of mine stayed at the Westin La Cantera this weekend and the shuttle driver told her that they were building a Ritz Carlton hotel and residence tower in the area. Does anyone know anything about this?

I wonder if this could be part of either Eilan or Cresta Bella?

I'm willing to bet this is a dead project that's as old as the article.

A lot of people have always assumed that the hotel at Eilan would be a Ritz-Carlton. Maybe that's what he was mentioning. All I know is that there is a Hotel Eilan, but don't know of plans for a Ritz yet.

Ritz from what I've heard is going in at Eilan and will be their main Hotel. So no, not old or dead.

You didn't happen to drive a shuttle this weekend, did you?

Nope.

My source is someone in the commercial development game.

This is only speculation, but perhaps he is looking into building offices to work closer from home since he lives in Shavano Park. He has "moved" the headquarters for Steak n' Shake (Company, not Operations ) - which is soon to be named Biglari Holdings, to SA. SNS Company is the holding company, thus the name change to end confusion.
He's been quite ambitious as CEO; he merged with Western Sizzlin, which had its shareholders meeting here in town a couple of weeks ago, and has his offices in Ste. 100 in Whitacre Tower. He's in the process of acquiring Fremont Michigan InsuraCorp, and he previously fell short in efforts to buy Itex and Jack in the Box.

Remember La Joya? Well Design International has updated their website and La Joya now seems to be called Los Lomas. Website

Same renderings and everything, but they put in this for the info on the project.

Quote:
* 55,000 sqm
* Mixed Use Development
* Retail
* Residential
* Hotel
* Performing Arts Centre
Not that we didn't know most of this, but the fact that they are still holding on to this project. It seems like the hope for this or any project on that land keeps getting shifted but hopefully something will amount of this. It's listed under 2007 though.
