A good question. I don't know. You could definitely check through the documents for materials plans (click the documents tab): http://pdsonline.cityofboise.org/pds...id=CUP16-00005

I skimmed very quickly and couldn't find anything, but it may be that there's a more detailed materials plan that will be submitted before design review. You could also email the architect or builder.

I really hope the city of Idaho Falls takes a hard look at downtown Boise as a great model to look at as IF is starting to reinvest in downtown.

Also glad to hear that IF is investing in its downtown. It's an important thing for all small cities to be doing at this point (Boise absolutely included).
Definitely the liveliest downtown between Portland and Denver.

Boise Wayfinding System
Downtown and Beyond

Quote:
CCDC is leading the effort to create Boise’s new Downtown Wayfinding System, an economic development focused infrastructure project to help drive business and development downtown. CCDC has hired Sea Reach LTD to review existing downtown wayfinding signs and develop a new wayfinding system design. The information you will see has been vetted through a stakeholder group representing more than a dozen different organizations, including: ITD, ACHD, City of Boise, DBA, VRT, and Boise State University.

Julia Davis Park 5th St. Entrance
5th & Myrtle

Quote:
CCDC, in partnership with the City of Boise, is developing a pathway connection from the south end of 5th Street into Julia Davis Park. This connection is part of Boise’s Central Addition LIV District initiative and the Boise Parks Department’s plans for Julia Davis Park. The entrance is intended to increase the visibility and access to Julia Davis Park from Downtown Boise, as well as increase connections across Front and Myrtle streets between Julia Davis Park, the Central Addition LIV District, and downtown Boise.

Geothermal Infrastructure
on Broad Street

Quote:
The Agency is partnering with Public Works department of Boise City to complete the geothermal system loop on Broad Street in the River-Myrtle District. “This infrastructure will serve area businesses and residents for years to come,” commented CCDC Executive Director John Brunelle. “The Agency is pleased to take a lead role in this and other projects slated for the Central Addition as we all work to assure this is a lasting, innovative, and vibrant district.”

Boise City’s boise-geothermalgeothermal system currently provides heat and energy to 80 buildings in the downtown area and the Boise State University campus. When considering the vision and sustainable goals of the LIV District, this renewable energy source offers tremendous opportunity to achieve many of those goals.

Question about the Geothermal Infrastructure: is there an existing geothermal source under the buildings or nearby?

Garden City Shipping Containers

I think someone posted the IBR article about it a few posts back, but here's a link to a news story from KBOI2 about the new shipping container apartments in Garden City. It'll be interesting to see how they turn out. There are plenty of good and bad examples of shipping containers projects.

The PDF below has the location and unit floor plans. Document comes from the City of Garden City

The base of the tower crane for the new Residence Inn on Capitol and Myrtle went in today. This is turning into a pretty epic continuous period with tower cranes looming over downtown Boise... early 2013 (JUMP) until at least early 2017?

If just one tower crane counts, it's been since Oct 2012! I believe 8th & Main's and the first for Jump overlapped. I could be wrong, not sure.

I think this is a fantastic idea, as long as it doesn't interfere with any future transit along the corridor.

I agree 100%. I would hate for there ever to be an extra hindrance to commuter rail along those tracks, though I doubt something like this would be. I've ridden my bike from Boise to Nampa before. This would make the trek much more pleasant.

Have you also learned that secret from the river; that there is no such thing as time? That the river is everywhere at the same time, at the source and at the mouth, at the waterfall, at the ferry, at the current, in the ocean and in the mountains.-Hermann Hesse

I really hope Simplot hill turns into something dynamic, for the public, and doesn't just fade away into another random overgrown hill. I'd really like to see the hill turned into a park, and down the road possibly a small outdoor performance venue at the top.
To cut down on maintenance costs, the hill could be transformed into many areas of paths, with designated flat and stepped lounging/seating, allowing the rest of the hill to grow in naturally.
The Ridge to Rivers trail system is very nice, but there needs to be places of leisure within the hills as well.

While not near the same thing, I imagine the hill turning into Boise's own version of Delores Park in San Francisco in the coming decades. There is nothing people like more than being outside with a view. Simplot Hill has the potential to be infamous.
The biggest deterrent is accessibility though, and maybe one of the closer hills to Downtown would be better suited for a park of this nature.

Delores Park

Eureka! They have found Boise. The upscale, burger/craft beer/small-batch whiskey restaurant will fill the Aspen Leaf Frozen Yogurt vacancy in The Mode building on Eighth Street. Until recently known as Eureka Gourmet Burger, Eureka! is a “family” of 16 burger restaurants, founded in 2009, mostly located in the greater orbit of Los Angeles.
