I'd say as far as Toronto suburbs go, downtown Burlington kinda looks similar to New Wesminster, just not quite as built up with residential towers (although it's got some new ones on the go). It lacks a rapid transit connection to Toronto, but it does have all day Go Train service which will eventually run at 15 minute intervals. It's quite a bit further away from the city core than New West, too.
Being an upscale suburb, Burlington does lack the sort of gritty character of New West, but that's found in spades next door in Hamilton.
I would say Burlington is more like Ambleside (West Vancouver), or Lonsdale, than New West.
Interestingly, this view only captures the western half of Burnaby. There are two additional town centre skylines (Edmonds and Lougheed) in the eastern half. Indeed, the tallest building in Western Canada was just proposed this week for the town centre of Lougheed.
Brentwood's transformation is really apparent in the last two photos. It's become something entirely different than what it was just 10 years ago, and there's still so much more in the pipeline.
Nearly half of the towers in that panorama have been built in the last 10 years, including all the tall ones. And it won't be slowing down, as there are 40-50 tower projects in existence with a dozen currently underway, including BC's tallest tower on the left hand side of the photo, in front of the two new towers.
