This tower looks like it belongs in Hong Kong or Dubai, not LA.

Then Ill ask, what DOES belong in LA.? Its hardly a hyper dynamic design, just a nicely proportioned modern tower. It fits in quite well actually. Better than I had expected.

I'd disagree. LA just looks too flat with all the roofs, but this'll bring a bit of a change to the city of angels.

I would have to disagree. This tower is excellent for LA and for many other cities.

It is good to have variety.

I don't get it either. Supertalls in the US aren't exactly coming a dime a dozen these days. This is great for LA.

I'd say it's about time LA joined NY, Chicago, and Houston as the only US cities with more than one supertall.

Houston only has one supertall.

According to the the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH), a "supertall" skyscraper is defined as a building over 300m (980ft) tall.

Therefore Houston has two supertalls.
1. JP Morgan /Chase: 305.41m (1002ft)
2. Wells Fargo: 302.4m (992ft)

This is precisely why we need it.

By the 1000 ft definition, yes. But the international 300m definition is more widely accepted. In that case, it has two.

Agreed, there's nothing wrong with a skyscraper being Asian looking, Asia has amazing buildings.

Not that you can tell the difference between 980 and 1000 feet with the naked eye anyway. Both Houston and LA have lots of tall buildings, and to say that this one belongs in Hong Kong or Dubai is quite a compliment!

It's only appropriate for the American city most connected to that part of the world.

Exactly this. I actually wish LA's highrise architecture did more to reflect its multiculturalism, the way you see in its crazy variety of lowrise buildings.

Plus, you'd expect an Asian design sensibility when the money is coming from Korean Air.

All that's left standing is the bit on the Wilshire side, which will probably be gone by the end of the week.

I prefer to focus on the milestone height of 1000'. Only NY, Chicago, Los Angeles, Atlanta, And Houston have 1000 footers. A small number considering how many other cities worldwide are developing them. And with this tower, only NY , Chicago and LA will have more than one in the US.

How many other tower proposals from recent memory would similarly be >1000 ft? Park 5th?

^ Read his first sentence. He goes by the 1,000 ft definition of "supertall".
