Several hundred built supertalls around the world doesn't reduce that they are remarkable achievement in height. For every one or two supertalls' built, there's at least one on hold and dozens cancelled before ground broken.

Agreed, and Toronto currently has 3 under construction with another 2 realistic approved projects that will likely see the light of day (Mirvish 2, One Yonge 2).

Yeah, not as many as I thought in N.A. I concede the point.

Pinnacle One Yonge | 351.85m | 106s | Pinnacle | Hariri Pontarini l SkyTower u/c

Right of centre: looking tall at around 80 storeys… with 26 storeys more and the crown levels still to come. Floor-plate tapering will become noticeable as it rises.

jackattack

SkyTower on the left and CIBC Square Phase 2 in the centre (glass envelope nearly complete).

SixPoints

Right of centre from distance.

CIBC SQUARE | 241.39m | 50s | Hines | WilkinsonEyre l Phase 2 u/c

It rocks to live in one of the few non-stop skycraper construction cities on the continent (for nearly a decade). With 3 super-talls u/c at the same time, a 263 metre Frank Gehry scraper rising (with a super-tall sibling to follow) on King Street West
... and 2 dozen other 150 metre to 200 metre+ scrapers u/c and nearing completion... spoiled scraper geeks are thriving indeed.

The CIBC Square twins in the centre.

Re: Sky

You sure on the crown? The plans for the extra floor and height increased showed a grey clad mechanical box and no more glass parapets.

This was posted on urbantoronto.ca just a few days ago marking the 85th floor completion at the same time as The One's 85th floor.

I almost forgot about Forma.

Some pics posted over on urbantoronto.ca from last week.

Forma 1 - #4. 262.8 m

Hey TorontoDrew (& Maldive & koops) - just want to say Thank-you for all the great updates you provide on this thread.

Question:
Where will the 2nd Forma tower be in relation to the one that is U/C now - north, east or west (looks like south is out of contention) ?

Concord Sky | 300.2m | 85s | Concord Adex | Kohn Pedersen Fox l u/c

Curtain-wall glazing starting to wrap around the Yonge side. The shortest of Toronto's 3 super-talls under construction... at a piddly 300.2 metres.

^Alas, that render is reportedly spurious. The real thing is going to be one big homogeneous slab of blue glass; none of the white framing. Blecch, that is like a yawn in the form of a skyscraper. Not that the other was worth celebrating (too bloody wide), but at least it had some character.

Hard to understand how a big blue slab would even get approved. Wtf are people thinking...

I think it's too soon to predict how this will look. When it comes to Concord in Toronto, seeing Curtain Wall is a good sign. My biggest fear with this building was what materials they would use, and it would look messy. Now it might look clean and forgettable.

We never really got any good renders of this tower before they started construction.

Maybe when they pass floor 11 and move onto the condo levels, some more details will be added to break up the fecade.

I was referring to the cladding. It may change when it gets to the Condo levels.

I don't know, but almost everyone at UT inconceivably prefers it to the one I favour, posted by Maldive. There is a render of the real thing somewhere, but it's not readily available because it has been known to work instantaneously as a sedative and laxative.

This one is fairly accurate as to how it should end up looking based on the approved elevations:

The other rendering is a terrible artists impression that is getting everyone upset over what should be a fairly high quality building, albeit a massive slab.

^ Whether or not it will be high quality I don't know, but that "design" is hideous. Not the ugliest thing I've ever seen, but quite possibly the ugliest thing in that size range I've seen in NA. I'm not sure there's a single building over 250m anywhere in NA that's worse.
