Yep, glad you made that observation because I'd bet you're right, now that I look at it with your eyes.

Yeah, that has to be Tower A in the background, as it is to have 500 units, same as Tower B, yet it is 18-stories shorter, so floor plates must be a good bit greater than those for Tower B. Looking forward to initial renderings to see the relation to 14th St. and the type of skin they propose. Lots of glass, for sure! Good stuff..

We've been here before though... all through the 90s til now. We've seen many BIG projects, lots of fanfare and appendage waving and years later, still a weed choked & fenced lot. Seems incredibly ambitious and from out of nowhere, like that big condo project east of Lenox mall with all the towers that never happened. Anyone remember that?

Have to start with a plan, even if it doesn't come to fruition. Atlanta is not unique as a city with numerous projects announced yet never realized or which were only partially completed. There will be many more of those. Not all of them can become a reality. Just a fact. They take substantial financial backing and confidence from the lending community around whatever use the proposed project is to have. That said, it is incredibly exciting to see the projects slated for Metro ATL, and several large scale mainly residential projects are either already under construction or moving through the development pipeline towards groundbreaking. 2014 will be a big year, I think..lots of promise, prospects, and potential!!

i knew the 1661 feet measure was off when i read it. a tower that tall would *not* be able to have that narrow of a base and be that tall without some really creative construction techniques like were used for the sears tower and the burj khalifa. the design for the building doesn't thrill me like it did for 6th and peachtree, and 1138 peachtree, but you get what you can, not every building is going to be a marvel. the ground floor looks to be incredibly promising.

For every one of those though there's a 12th & Midtown, a PCM, an Atlantic Station, that did get off the ground and went on to make a significant impact.

PCM has yet to be determined if it will make a significant impact. Just as Buckhead Atlanta impact on Atlanta hasn't been determined either.

Absolutely, that was to be CityPlace by the Related Cos.

Related is one of the largest and most successful developers in the U.S. That project was launched in the face of the real estate meltdown, that's what killed it.

True...I have seen threads on other forums dedicated to "Unbuilt Proposals" and such. It's pretty common for large cities to have a long list of them.

I agree. I'd also add that the 98 14th St proposal is BIG, BRASH and BOLD. It is go BIG or go home type of proposal. It reminds me of the Atlanta I remember as a little girl. You dream big. Sometimes you win and sometimes you have to keep trying.

The 98 14th street project is a development that will dramatically alter Midtown forever. This is a Manhattan type of development. The type of development you really only see in the world class cities. Does this mean Atlanta is finally reaching a critical point in it's existence where it can be called a world class city? We'll see.

It just re-affirms that Atlanta is going in the same direction that NYC did in it's early years. Midtown becomes the booming red hot district getting all of the major developments while Downtown remains almost stagnant, but still gets development from time to time.

I said back in 2010/2011 that in 10-15 years, Midtown will be amazing and truly be the premier urban neighborhood of the South being able to compete with the top urban neighborhoods of the country. With all of the proposed developments we've gotten in the last 6 months, if they are all built, Midtown will be so different and so much more dense by 2020.

Add that in with all of the development in the surrounding neighborhoods and the beltline, Atlanta will be great by 2020-2025. We might actually have some great urban neighborhoods that we can showcase, not only to the country, but to the world.

Now all we need is some more transit. That's all we need. Let's hope we get some.
