Awesome side by side of One Bloor West, and the progression of One Yonge over a short period of time..
Posted on Urbantoronto.ca

Crazy how fast One Yonge(OY) has been catching up. One Bloor West (OBW) has been plagued with delays, mismanagement, and more along the way. OY had none of that and started a year later. The also has the best building site in the city with direct highway access to bring in materials fast with a much larger onsite worksite. It would be kind of funny at this point to see OY fly past OBW before its crane hoists the last steel beam.

One Yonge has been going up at a breakneck speed. Faster than almost any large tower I can think of in recent memory.

Still over 50 metres of separation between these two towers. At 1.5 floors per week, Sky Tower will require almost 11 weeks to close the gap...

Remember when we had Harry Stinson looking to out-trump Trump in that little failed who will build the first supertall in Toronto?

Thank god we never got Sapphire Tower, and I'm glad the St Regis Tower is lost in the crowd.

Then the Harry snake-oil-roadshow moved down the QEW to Hamilton... and we're eternally grateful

PS: I kinda wish Sapphire got built and with a twin... so that someone could say their skyline had "balls"

Some possible good news, it looks like Concord's Sky Tower is actually getting Curtain Wall as shown in the renders, at least so far. Let's hope it rises past the podium levels. This tower might turn out pretty nice looking when complete.

Amazing just how fast One Yonge has gone up, compared to The slow One

A few factors that helped were One West's mismanagement under Bazis. And possibly the biggest fact is how One Yonge has the best building site in the city.

Tower has been rebranded One Bloor West. Everything has worked against the supertall. The location at one of the busiest intersections with no space for staging. The complex engineering for the simple stacked boxes silhouette. The multi-millionaire ownership unable to manage a multi-billion project.

Is there a fear it wont rise above the podium ?

Also - how is Forma coming along ?

It's Concord Pacific in Toronto, so nothing is a given. A Toronto forumer can correct me if I'm wrong, but this will be the first building they've used Curtain Wall on.

It's going to be built. People are just worrying with Concords history of sub par cladding, that once the podium is built, the the tower portion of the building will have cheaper material like spandrel (see CityPlace).

It's going to be a supertall , so with such presence everyone is hoping they stick with the higher end curtainwall from top to bottom as depicted in original renders by Crestford.

Probably asked this before. If it says curtainwall in the site plan application (I don't know if it does) can a developer switch out for window wall?

Curtainwall or not, the facade is going to be covered in grills for venting.

They've started on the rooftop and crown element now, about 40ft to go.
