There's an existing thread for The Bremond. The rendering is posted in Reply#6

And the hotel on the Taco Cabana site was noted back in May by the Austin American Statesman - see this post (No rendering, though.)

Here's an update form the ABJ about three Downtown hotels. It says 9 hotels are planned and the three pictured are "ready". The 17-story Hyatt Place will start construction in October. The 28-story Marriot and 53-story convention center hotel start construction next summer.

Downtown hotels a go
Nine are planned, only three deemed ‘ready’

Cody LyonStaff Writer - Austin Business JournalEmail
Developers are moving forward with plans for three major hotel projects that could transform downtown Austin’s skyline and increase the Central Business District’s hotel room stock by 30 percent — from 7,674 rooms to about 10,000.

Indiana-based White Lodging Services Corp. is on the verge of building two hotels downtown. The first will be a 17-story, 296-room, 252,000-square-foot Hyatt Place at Third and San Jacinto streets. The company is also building a 28-floor, 1,003-room, 1.2 million-square-foot Marriott hotel at Second Street and Congress Avenue.

Meanwhile, Manchester Texas Financial Group said it’s moving forward on its planned 53-story, 1,078-room hotel at ...

The newest rendering shows that the Marriott height has increased to more like 35 to 40 stories. But articles about it continue to say it will be 28-stories or so.

Tenants at the site of the 26-story boutique hotel have started vacating - including a popular restaurant which has upset a few folks.

Slowdown raises questions about future of F1

Hopefully this gets worked out quickly.......

A noticeable work slowdown at Austin's Formula One racetrack site and a possible change in the track's promoter or management is raising new questions about the future of the circuit and the ability of developers to meet a tight construction schedule with the inaugural race now 14 months away.

Yea I am wondering about the Marriott too because that Rendering does not look like a 26 floor building. If they are not right about the Marriott I hope they are right about the Manchester hotel having 53 floors.

Construction on F1 track resumes

Looks like they worked out the money issues they were having......

By John Maher AMERICAN-STATESMAN STAFF

Construction resumed Tuesday at the Formula One race track being built southeast of Austin after a near-stoppage that lasted for weeks, a delay that raised questions about the future of the $300 million project.

From that city projects update, they have the new building at the Whitley Printing site as starting Oct 2011. While they haven't started building, I have noticed they have started doing "demo prep", for lack of a better term. A bunch of guys in hazmat-looking outfits removing stuff. No telling what kind of chemicals were left over from that place. So work is going on there.

Oh, very sexy! Although I sure hope it doesn't cause the 360 to tip over. That would suck.

You know... It isn't that bad. A little to Texas home comfort for me, but that's okay.

It's supposed to have a roof top garden and reading area. That should be interesting. From teh rendering, it looks like it's around 80 to 100 feet tall.

Sears is looking to possibly move its headquarters to Austin. But I suspect that they just be trying to squeeze a tax break out of the State of Illinois.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/b...inst-ohio-texas-20111005,0,7237935.story

Sears Holdings Corp. is pitting Ohio and Texas against its home state of Illinois in a bidding war that has states clamoring for its headquarters.

A source close to the matter said a small group of leaders from Sears visited Columbus, Ohio, and Austin, Texas, last month to visit potential sites for their headquarters. Company leaders met with economic development leaders from those states and business and municipal leaders, as well as gubernatorial staff looking to woo the company, the source said, and were offered incentives to relocate.

That'd be huge for either city. I wouldn't hold my breath for Columbus, though. I'd hold my breath just a smidgen longer for Austin.

They're likely to stay put.

We shall see but it is interesting news none the less. I have a feeling we will be hearing about more HQ's eyeing Austin.
