I recall hearing that the old Regent Park (i think that was the name anyway) locations of both Safeway and later No Frills were actually higher on the theft spectrum. I think the info may have been unofficially said as part of the reason for Safeway seeming moving out of the location placed nicely between two of their other stores with limited direct and local competition.

Safeway wanted out of Regent Park from what I was told as it was one of the small store formats and they thought most customers would drive over to Kildonan Crossing or Kern Park. Most if not all of the leased small format stores of that size in Winnipeg were closed down over the last few years.

Henderson @ Kimberly, Ellice and Wall, Main @ Luxton (transferred to CO-OP before lease expired and not renewed by landlord) are small Safeway stores about Regent Park's size that have also closed outright over the last few years.

Safeway after they closed Regent Park store was giving free rides once a week to some of the seniors blocks in the area to the Safeway store on Kildare (Kern Park). I am not sure if they still do that after they were bought out by Sobey's.

I think the only reason that the smaller Mountain @ McGregor and Osborne @ Kyklemore Safeway's are still open is those locations are owned by property management division of Safeway/Sobeys.

I used to live near the Osborne & Kylemore Safeway and I wondered how it stayed in business... you never see people pushing carts full of groceries in there, it's always just baskets with a few things in them. It's basically the neighbourhood corner store for that one ingredient you forgot to buy somewhere else.

I lived there for nearly a decade and I could probably count on my fingers the number of times I spent more than a hundred dollars a shop there (contrast with Walmart grocery runs where I never walk out without dropping at least $200).

I was driving by today and nothing is open yet. Seafood City, Bulk Barn and Michael's are still under construction and there is no access to parking anywhere in the vicinity.

I'm one of those "basket with a few items" shoppers, but I do buy almost all of my food from Safeway. Just in smaller installments every couple of days. We all eat and buy (roughly) the same amount of food, regardless of whether we carry it out in a cart or a basket.

This is the urban Save-On model and Loblaws CityMarket models: Lots of people going a few times a week or even daily. Less overall spend in a single trip, but overall spending often similar or higher, and margins much higher (more prepared foods).

^ That is not what is going on at the Osborne and Kylemore Safeway... it never looked like people doing the urban stop for fresh groceries every day thing. It was more like someone running in to pick up an onion, some milk or some late night munchies.

Well according to the malls Instagram Bulk Barn is open. I asked about Seafood City and it may be open at the end of the month.

Gut feel is Hillberg & Berk may be in the former "Lulu Lemon Jr" store although its proper name escapes me.

Bulk Barn is open. There is parking available in front of it and it’s not fenced off

Apologies if this has been asked before:
Anyone know a good place to sell antique jewelry?
A friend inherited a bunch of diamond rings, etc from his mother. He asked me but I honestly didn't know where to send him.
He's not looking for one of those gold by the pound places.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

I'd inquire at a place like the Diamond Gallery. I'm sure they wont buy, but if the stuff is worth anything they would likely know where to go.

Thanks. Hadn't thought of them.

And thanks BAKGUY - People who do Estate Sales never even occurred to either one of us.

I passed the info along. Hopefully he can find someone to help him out.

Thanks!!

I just learned that Winnipeg has one GameStop actually called GameStop and not EB Games, the one on Taylor.

Kind of useless information but you know.
