I know this might be a rather unpopular opinion because I've read a lot of negative feelings about 70's brutalist towers on these forums, but buildings like the Church Office Building, the Aon Center in Chicago, and of course the Twin Towers of the old World Trade Center have always been my favorite kind of skyscraper. I love the optical illusion that such narrow-placed beams cause when you look at them, so much movement and texture. I also like how it takes away the perception of size and human involvement when you look at the facade from afar, the opaque white and symmetric design is just really attractive and nostalgiac to me. I am a sucker for the austere and authoritative architecture that gives a city a sense of nostalgic American ethos.
A shame that we probably won't get any more towers like that in Salt Lake City, everyone wants floor-to-ceiling glass views and thus it seems everything built all has the same glass-centric facade, though I am very pleased that Kensington tower and Utah theatre both have some non-glass facade accents in the lower levels, harmonizes with older towers like the Walker center and the hotel Monaco at street level a little better than all-glass would.
