So far just Alexandria & Hayward. So sad about Hayward with how beautiful it is.

As an admitted "outsider" will someone please tell me what kind of people are occupying these housing units. You can be honest, and you do not have to be politically correct for my sake.

What RR operation sits in the proposed park? When I would ride Amtrak, I remember all the rail operations to be west of the river. To be frank, I have never explored the area east of the river where the park is proposed but I don't think there are any rail operations there.

Its one of the most popular if not THE most popular forum on Skyscraper. I consider that a good thing.

I wont say anything on the matter. You yourself may be comfortable hearing the truth but unfortunately others on this forum are not.

I agree completely. This thread does blow away the other city threads it seems. I've been following the Chicago & NYC threads where there is so much more exciting development, yet the threads are generally void of real life input, and quite boring.

OK, how about some pictures, went jogging/walking downtown this morning

starting on Bunker Hill
Broad Museum and Apt. Tower

facade is not on yet, but the inside sure looks to be interesting

Courthouse, trailers are on site, green netting up around the site

Giant hole at 8th and Grand, wonder when they are going to start pouring concrete on this one

8th and Hope

and racing 8th and Hope is Omni

Smart and Final remodel looks pretty darn good

Marriott in Context with its bigger brother

No activity on the empty lot next door for the second tower yet
(not that I was expecting anything on this till next year)

This one will do wonders for the area, banner for the Bloc up

Forgot what this was (Olympic and Hill)

until I looked in the windows of a nearby building, its a TCA, and I answered my own question

Finally a couple of One Santa Fe (the lengths we go to make sure we build with wood, strange construction site, but should turn out good I hope)

you're welcome, good to get some exercise and update the status on a bunch of projects.

The Maztlan low income housing is covered in scaffolding, did not photo it, also there is a crane up for the Palmer latest faux-Tuscan building on Temple...

Over the years, I have been losing respect for this guy; this article finishes off what little respect I had left.

^Cathedral of Our Lady of Angels in MacArthur Park would have been ace though.

Gehry is actually right about a lot of things, love it or loathe it.

Some of the ideas Gehry brought up in there weren't bad. Putting the Cathedral at MacArthur Park, for instance.

But yeah, the stuff he said about downtown comes off as sour grapes. His design for Grand Avenue didn't pan out, but the other parts of the downtown are getting a lot of activity. New restaurants and stores all around, lots of apartments under construction, and some of the big developments are showing signs of life again.

This is what I wrote in response to this article on CurbedLA:
wilcal wilcal

I think that Mr. Gehry can be a good architect (with some exceptions, e.g. I think the building at MIT is a piece of crap, and he ripped off the school), but I don't trust or respect his opinion or expertise on urban issues.

I disagree. Neighborhoods evolve, but Downtown will always be Downtown. MacArthur Park is largely hispanic right now, but who knows what it'll be like in 20, 30, 50 years? Maybe it'll be swallowed up by Koreatown.

The Palace sign was partially fixed sometime last week. The yellow outline around the lettering, as well as the A were turned back on. Note how fugly Figaro is with its stupid banner of a sign, and its hideous awnings. Figaro blends right into Broadway - and thats a very bad thing. Anyone thinking of going there should head to Terroni instead.

And supposedly Angels Knoll & all that nice park land there (been closed for a couple weeks) by Angels Flight is being sold off.

Goodbye best park in downtown...
