By the sheer size of the podium, I think this will be a great retail/F&B venue. I am definitely excited about this taking shape. Good thing the podium is considered "heritage", because if the developer were to knock the walls down, we would instead be getting some same-ol post 90s boring human-scale (meaning tiny) downtown developments here.

With the suburb hosting such great F&B facilities, I don't think the Food Hall here will be bland. It will have to at least match what is in Brentwood mall. Better than nothing, right?

Better than nothing, for sure. But I hope it will more than that. I hope that tenants / developers will realize what a dynamic place it coiuld be, and include other stuff, like cool public art, music, great lighting, late hours ... and make it place that first pops into people's minds if they say, "meet you downtown." That is wishful thinking, I know.
Thank you, mcminsen for yet abother precise photo update. Upwards contruction has passed seemingly quie fast, Here. I am looking foeward to see what thye huge concourse level will bring to the city. Of course, even if it starrts a fairly standard, foot courst / reteail type place, they will alwaus find a was to upgrrade, bring in musicians, quartets,
peotry readings, Fashion shows ... art displays

The best aspect of this for urban development will be some public washrooms

I remember in the 1990s the Post Office was a pale yellow-beige.
I liked that colour much better than the muddier colour that replaced it and is now.

I assume they're replicating the original colour (in this 1961 Archives image)

Yeah, same happened to the details on the Hotel Georgia - they changed from a lighter colour (more like Hudson's Bay terra cotta) to a darker colour.

Lighter Hotel Georgia:

Is the Hotel Georgia painted? Or did they just clean and seal the terra cotta? (Although with The Bay, it got noticeably lighter once the terra cotta was cleaned). I assume there's no actual stone or terra cotta on the Post Office (except the red tiles), just painted concrete trying to look like it's stone.

They had the materials in the old heritage documents for The Post. I think there was also the granite around the pillars.

You're right. I just looked, and Hotel Georgia is painted. That's why the colour is so uniform. There would be a bit more variation if it was terra cotta. I guess they had to repair some of the mouldings and other details, and then painted over the whole thing when they did the restoration 10 years ago.

Come to think of it, you can tell where there have been repairs on the Hudson's Bay's terra cotta.

The horizontal bands on tower two are solid aluminum panels instead of whatever’s going on with that glass on tower one. I prefer it.

My pic, today.

I prefer it as well.
The glass louvres on the south tower are meant to provide sun shading while the north side doesn't need it.
I wonder about the sides facing the courtyard?

Pic by me today.
The end of the tower looks nice with the stepping.

Thanks!
So the south tower (which has glass louvres on south side) has the aluminim strips on the north side.
