Anywho, I'm not so sure we will be seeing many more large hotels when we are losing conventions like Dell...
Hotels aren't meant for the local populace. I'm sure a Trump hotel near the capitol would do just fine without the "deep blue stronghold."

The new one in DC is struggling at present. I would imagine that meeting planners will avoid Trump branded hotels like the plague for the foreseeable future.

Austin and D.C. aren't the same thing, but you may be correct. Time will tell.

I knew this thread would get political just because any topic involving a mention of "Trump" or "Clinton" can easily becomes a toxic discussion. And it's perfectly OK to discuss any project's prospects with Trump's name attached to it as long as everyone agrees to disagree on their political opinions and don't get personal.

I bite my tongue quite a lot on this site because I know I'm in the minority.

You're a good man, and I know how you feel. Although I'm much more of a Gary Johnson type regardless of Aleppo.

Really?

You guys are putting too much into Trump - the politician. I believe almost all of the Austin posters would have welcomed a "Trump" tower if it were planned a few years back.

There are a myriad of company names which bear the name of it's founding family: Marriott, Hilton, Dell, Johnson & Johnson, Bloomberg, Turner Broadcasting, etc...

A certain level of egotism/narcissism is required to achieve the level of success represented by these and several other major corporations.

I certainly welcome the hotel with or without his name it. The difference between Trump and the other names you listed is not narcissism, it's that Trump chose to go into politics. Anyone who goes into politics will alienate a significant segment of the population no matter which party they associate themselves with. And if your name is your money making brand, it's just good business sense to start branding your projects with another name.

Plus this project is adjacent to the Brackenridge Tract, so things are looking up (literally) for this area.

That is exactly what he is doing with Scion. In fact, no new Trump hotel/resort development will bear the "Trump" name going forward.

Putting lipstick on the pig, Trump spokespeople are calling the Scion brand a "lifestyle brand" aimed at a growing millennial market. They seem to be implying that the Trump brand will remain and perhaps expand over time, but the core market for the Trump product is supposedly older and more affluent. I predict the Trump name will disappear from the scene by the end of this decade.

http://reknown.com/2016/10/trump-hot...ation-problem/

Nice little article on Trump's hotel brand by a hospitality consultant I follow.

Among other observations:

Quote:
One of the ironies of Trump’s campaign is that a huge part of his support group is working class Americans who can’t afford to stay in his hotels, whereas he has alienated many of the wealthy citizens and international travelers who can. He has also put off hotel employees, some of whom vow to never set foot in a Trump hotel, much less work for one.
Shorter version: as uncomfortable as it is, Trump's politics are the opposite of hospitable, and that's in the end what will kill his hotel brand.

I think's it's a natural consequence of being involved in hotels and politics. For president, Trump can alienate half of the US, and still theoretically be successful. With hotels, you can't do that lest you run yourself out of business.

^ Unless people are drawn to the elite status and they know that "lesser people" can't get in...that's what country clubs are all about, anyway. Nonetheless, I wouldn't mind seeing him flop after all that he's said and done, politics aside. He's a jerk - and I know plenty of folks on both sides of the aisle who agree on that point.

IF...there was a Clinton Hotel chain, I imagine it as a discount interstate highway focused chain at which Bill makes midnight rendezvous with trailer park "babes".

Disclaimer: I dislike the politics of D. Trump and H & B Clinton equally. Therefore I am retaining my non-biased forum mod status.
