It is a plaza and it will be appropriate for the site but really nothing more than a slightly exaggerated island in the middle of a square-a-bout (this is when you take a roundabout and ruin it in typical Calgary fashion by adding corners and stop signs).

This is a good post. Take something easy to implement and efficient and Calgarify it with stop signs and corners to make it dumb.
I am turning against designs like this. I like Plazas, but the lack of grass or other street furniture these places often have in the name of reducing loiterers and "undesirables" is starting to wear on me (see the ridiculous discriminatory anti-homeless
public washroom policy in EV). I want places to sit and linger, I don't care if that means that people different than me will use them too. That is the core job of a public space is for it to be for everyone. We are all people and we all need to sit down eventually.
Hopefully the implementation will be better than this high-level image suggests.
