You should insert the wilshire grand tower into these images of Downtown, it would be awesome.

The USBT is 1,018' and it is measured from the lower 5th Street main entrance about the same elevation as the AON building that is between Wilshire and 6th. Hope Place is the street with the entrance on the north side up the hill.

Awesome render! But when it comes to future shots like that, you need to take into effect that it's around 2017 when this bad boy will be completed, and by then, a good half dozen other projects will have been added to our skyline. So this isn't the only jewel in the city of angels. We could very well be having another 40+ story building going up, with a few 30+ rising around the city. The skyline will not look precisely like that, but i'm no one to complain. Thanks for the render

I've always said that sentiment should never get in the way of progress, but I think this particular case is an exception. From what your diagram shows the Wilshire Grand -though very beautiful and thoughtfully designed- destroys what few other world skylines have... a centerpiece tower planted almost perfectly in the center of the bunch. I love that we're getting a new tower, I just wish it was 50-75 feet shorter so it wouldn't draw so much attention away from the US Bank Tower. CUE THE SLANDER.
Build a 90-story tower on the Standard parking lot. Boom, problem solved.

^That angle verifies what LASportsFan heard from the foreman. Excavation has clearly started towards the Wilshire/Figueroa corner of the lot.

I've always wondered why no developer has swooped on that parking lot.

There is also that huge lot on 8th and Figueroa across the street from Macy's Plaza. I figure that lot will get more valuable if/when Macy's goes through with it's planned renovation.

It's closer to Figat7th if anything. But I agree. Once the Wilshire Grand retail area kicks in, along with the Macy's plaza renovation it'll jump up in value.

Wow, thats awesome! It fills in that gap in the skyline so perfectly! I've been hoping someone would do this for ages. I'd do it myself if I weren't so inept at photoshop. Fukken saved, and many thanks to you good sir.

I was just bemoaning that giant parking lot and garage the other day. That's an epic hole in the area. It would be a great place for a mixed user and/or more shopping to tie the Macy's fortress in with 7th&Fig (<-- man that's awkward to type).

That's why it's referred to as FIGat7th
I concur to your judgement. It's a wasted space. Would love to see a few skyscrapers grace that area. The Fig canyon would be awesome

its really shocking to me that something hasnt been proposed there recently. i think that whole site (including the two horrible parking garages on the corners of flower) should be torn down and we can fit 4 - 6 towers there with a small park in the middle. Should be two hotels, and 2 - 4 residential buidlings with all retail on the first 2 floors. It could be a great, massive development.

Some pictures I took today.

From some angles on Francisco Street, it's hard to tell that part of the old building is still there.

So now that the Wilshire is pretty much gone which is the best view that used to be obstructed by it?
