It looked like a beautiful, hot day, but that pic was from Monday and the high was only 16 and it was windy. Those people jumping into the whitecaps in the other pic impressed me. It would have to be 30 outside for me to do that.

The previous day it was 27 and sun beating down. The sand was hot to walk on. But I was at a different beach than in that pic.

These are all from the same coastline. The world's longest freshwater beach coastline. But the sand differs in quality from one beach to the other. Wasaga is included in that coastline, but I haven't been to the main beach for years and I always read it kind of sucks. But Allenwood Beach in Wasaga, away from the strip, is top notch. Fine, light sand and shallow water you can walk way out into. And way less crowded of course.

Mountain beaches look cool. Been to some swimming holes in the US Rockies, but none of them had sand. Anyway, is it a regular thing for families to go to beaches in the mountain for their kids to at least play in the sand with buckets and shovels, etc? Or do mountain beaches, particluarly those higher up, only attract hikers and those with canoes or kayaks?

^more canoes and kayaks, but certainly some 'beach goers' with blankets, shovels and tents.

That will be some brisk water that high up in the mountains! Good for a refreshing splash on a summer day, but not for any long time dipping.

Those Ontario beach pics on the last page are great!

Beautiful Third Beach shots! These aren't the best quality, but I took them myself last night at English Bay. This particular frame had a cool vibe, with the sky colour, the street lamps, the trees.

PS I still can't figure out how to load photos, argh I feel like an idiot. I used a hosting site and tried embedding the URLs in the photo post, but it didn't work. If anyone could follow those links and post the photos directly to the thread, that would be much appreciated!

Nice view. Next time you upload to Imgur, just hit "get share links" at the top right and copy & paste the link for BBCode (Forums):

There's a bunch of beaches on the coast of Tiny, and they are techinically public, but for the last several years, you need a permit, which might be like $150 per year. It's parking on the shoulder for most while some have actual lots. Then there are a handful you pay by the hour which has shoulder and parking lot parking. Some are small while some are big like Balm Beach and Jackson Beach. Needless to say, the smaller, less used ones have the better sand. Any home owner in Tiny can get the permit for free of course.

Most of the small beaches, which make up most of the total public beaches, actually only have like 60 to 100 feet of width, then it's private on either side.

The last two years I've covered upwards of 15 beaches between Allenwood in Wasaga to Thunder Beach (two public spots) in Tiny, all on the same coast. Most of those beaches are not marked, you just stumble upon them. Basically you drive Tiny Beaches Rd or River Rd in Wasaga (same thing) and just be on the lookout.

Driving on that road with all the impressive cottages makes you wish you were rich. Though I must say, even as nice as the cottages are, most are really close to each other. It's basically like leaving the city just to be close to your neighbour again, but at the beach. The more north you go the more spread out they are though.

How many times do you get northern lights up that way on an annual basis? Does it ever become so routine that people don't bother looking up anymore?

When we saw a dolphin for the first time in the Florida Keys off the causeway, my dad pulled over and we were in awe. As an adult, I've now seen them in the wild in Myrtle Beach and Florida again. The novelty is worn off so I wouldn't be enthusiastic anymore, but I'd still look.

I'd be surprised if it was very common considering that even Northern Manitoba isn't all that far north compared to parts of northern Europe. While Toronto is at the same latitude as northern Spain, Churchill is only about as far north as Stockholm.

Sandy beaches surround Savary Island in the Sunshine Coast and it has some of the warmest waters I've ever experienced in the North Pacific (BC to California). This is because it is situated at the meeting point of two tidal streams.

It's a pain to get to from Vancouver (7 to 8 hours depending on how long you're waiting for the ferries), but it's worth it. It's a stunning part of BC.

Some drone shots from my visit last month.
