I mean Toronto is currently constructing the country's top 3 tallest towers and nobody really seems to care. You'd think there would be a little more excitement!

I think there's a lot more to whether people are excited about a project than its relative height. There's also whether people like the design, the skyline impact, and what it means for a city. For one thing, people tend to be more excited over office towers since they're rarer and harder to do, at least in Canada. Plus, it implies a strong business sector when there's a demand for class A office space. People get excited about signs of economic success. Nationally we seem to put up 10 or 20 tall residential buildings for every tall office project, so with 2/3 of those Calgary projects being fully office and the 3rd having a large office component, that probably makes a difference.
And in my case, The One has been going on for so long it's hard to maintain excitement for that many years. I remember pointing it out to a buddy as the future tallest when we visited three years ago and it was already several stories above ground then. And with Concord Sky... I don't like it. So obviously I wouldn't get excited about something I don't like. With Forma, I'm nervous. Whether or not I like it will depend on the execution. It could be quite nice or become an eyesore, so it's too early for excitement.
