Let's hope with the official announcement today re 2025 Grey Cup, there will be incentive to complete the Sutton Place, as well as some effort to make downtown inviting.

Yikes. Hadn't thought of that. It is looking dreadful right now, hopefully we can shine it up a little before the big game... in the past, a lot of Grey Cup events have been held downtown so between that and the hotels, there will be a lot of visitors in the area.

Good point. This could be the incentive to push for a lot of positive moves downtown. Sutton Place would certainly get off to a flying start if it could open and fill up right away for Great Cup. If PP and The Bay are at least started, and some other sprucing up done, it could create a very positive vibe for the downtown.

You can count on the Convention Center being the focal point for most festival events. Another hotel connected by sky walk will be an asset.l

Grey Cup 2025 over 33 months away. Wouldn't Sutton Place be built by then?

If they resumed construction today then probably yes... but is that happening anytime soon? I hope it does, having that hotel in time for the Grey Cup would be ideal.

Pretty sure Sutton will start up again any day now after the Grey Cup announcement, nothing like filling a hotel for a night or two that spurns on construction!

Unusual because Banks rarely open new branches without closing 4 but....I work in the area..I think I have the answer. Not a TD Bank for miles in any direction. Also, they are getting in the area before the thousands of people begin to live in the proposed residential buildings surrounding Polo Park are up & running.

They will be competing with the Scotiabank Branch in Polo Park, the BMO in Madison Square and the CIBC on Ellice and Empress.

The hotel has great bones, still has stunning ballrooms and dining areas.
It is far from Decrepit.
Visit some hotels just before & after the Main Street underpass.
The new owners plan to restore it & over time have it compete with The Fort Garry.

Also RBC on Ellice...so hey have been missing out. I have had many clients over the years with large purchases needing to go in person to a TD branch & it is always a struggle with an older clients. This will help.

I also have heard that Sutton Place was to resume construction in April?
If that & the Marlborough Hotel restoration could , should happen in time for Grey Cup 2025, that would be ideal.
The former Bay site might possibly have a couple of things open by then & perhaps some of Portage Place reconfigured by True North. They have already said it will be a 5 year long project in total.

I don’t, but I know the street is blocked off for 2 days for “building construction”, I assume it’s probably a new rooftop unit if anything.

It could certainly do that, it's a beautiful old building. Now if it had a "haunted" room, they could really sell the place!
