Not construction related but this adds to the ambiance of the city
https://leaderpost.com/news/local-ne...dbfa82f59/amp/

It’s a magical, visually stunning figure skating show starring Olympian. Stojko will be accompanied on Saskatchewan’s largest outdoor rink at Mosaic Stadium, Iceville, by a cast of professional figure skaters from the Canadian Ice Dance Theatre bringing fire to the ice,” according to a news release.

The performance is described in the release as a “symphony of skating, music, lighting, and fireworks all coming together as one. It will be the hottest night in February Regina has ever seen.”

Admission to the show is free, courtesy the City of Regina. Seating is limited to the first 10,000 people to register, with registration opening Friday, Jan. 28, at 10 a.m. at www.frostatreal.ca.

About half of the projected new positions will support the company’s Brandt Tractor locations across Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Another 40% will be focused on boosting manufacturing in Regina, Saskatoon and Illinois, and the remainder will be in corporate support roles in the company’s Regina locations.

“For anyone looking to join a private, family-owned business where they’re truly valued, Brandt has opportunities for skilled trades-people, business professionals, and new grads too,” adds Semple. “With the addition of our large new training center in Regina, we can offer motivated individuals the training they need to build a dynamic career here at Brandt.”

This one sounds like it is flax seed for food but the first one was flax straw for biomass energy. Seems weird to ship a low value product all the way to Japan for "green" energy purposes. Obviously they must pay a premium there for biomass, but come on.

Sask. crushers prompt new canola demand, excitement for farmers for canola
There are questions about how farmers will meet the new demand as a swath of crushers are expected to come online.

Author of the article: Jeremy Simes

Two years ago, China had closed shipments of canola from companies Viterra and Richardson. As a result, more than two million tonnes of canola went to the European Union.

“It’ll certainly keep competition in the market when it’s crushed and exported right here,” said McClean, who is also a director with SaskCanola. “I think it’s positive.”

Leftwich said it’s important the federal government’s emission policies don’t hinder farmers’ capacity to grow canola.

Survey shows these Canadian cities have lost green spaces amid urbanization
By Bob Weber The Canadian Press
Posted February 1, 2022 2:42 pm
Big losers include cities such as Kelowna, B.C., which went from nearly three-quarters green to less than half. Milton, Ont., went through a similar drop, as did Winnipeg.

Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton all lost green space. Saskatoon and Regina were among the few that gained.
Does any know where the green space was added in Regina

All new areas built in that time have parks and areas set aside for creeks / water? Are you meaning taking a farmer's field and building a subdivision takes away green space?

We didn't gain green space though.

Farm fields to suburban housing is not a legit "gain". The only way for the city to gain green space is to remove some form of development and turn it into a park.

There isn't an example of that in the last 10 years.

Yes I agree with you on that.

I imagine a study like this could look at, total area within city limits that are green space, did that number go up? Yes, city limits expanded and park was added in subdivisions. So total green space in the city "went up".

Agreed, but the satellite imagery may have difficulty distinguishing farmland and grassland from other undeveloped areas or brownfield sites that have become overgrown. I don't think that I'd classify an abandoned lot that has gone back to seed as green space.

And I suppose if someone converted a grass lawn to xeriscape to reduce water use, that is reducing green space.

I mean yeah studies study what they want. But not sure what this one is really trying to make a point about.
