At this point I'm just hoping the street interaction and activation end up being solid so I can ignore what is going on above with the drab, slab sided precast panels.

The street level exterior facade certainly doesn't seem to give the visibility/ease of access you'd expect for retail or a restaurant IMO and office space seems like a pretty tough sell these days. Seems to me like it would appeal to a limited range of potential tenants. Maybe something like an insurance broker, financial planning firm or dental office?

It will be interesting to see how successful they are in filling the space.

The location of the east (right-hand) set of fire stairs/fire exit really makes accessing the north half of the first floor difficult. An entrance off South Market would have mitigated this.

There's definitely room for a small grocery market here, even if the loading in and out of any of these commercial spaces wouldn't be ideal. A grocery store could be a very profitable business, and if done right, it could be far more than just a small grocery store... it could be an important third place for the Uptown community.

Would someone provide an update as to what floor they just started yesterday? Is it the 10th of 12 or 13 depending on how you look at it lol

Yes, I believe that's right. Couple more floors of the current facade after this one, then the final floor is going to be set back as a penthouse, so will be harder/impossible to see from street level.

If I'm understand correctly (and there is no certainty of that

) ......Counting from Charlotte I believe the floor they started yesterday will be 10 with 11 plus the penthouse to go after that. That would total 12 floors from Charlotte (13 from King)

Lots of confusion over this and I'm certainly willing to be corrected.

Look what I found! Has this ever been posted before?

This makes me feel kind of sad compared to what we actually got. Glass, balconies, no gaudy logos!

Based on the mostly accurate buildings surrounding it, this was a real concept.

That would have been stunning. Sad. But, we got what we did and while we don't like it, when you see comments on places like Facebook, the locals appear to be fans of it. We are the biggest critics around, given the focus of this site - so we will be extra harsh versus what the masses will think.

But yes, the concept above would have been MUCH better.

The architect's website is the source. I saw it listed on one of the posters next to the site.

It is interesting that they chose to use that render to highlight the project when it's so drastically different from what has actually been built.

They also designed Barrick Green Residence, but that render looks identical to reality.

What I think is the final non-mini-penthouse level started this morning. It will likely be finished by EOW.

Also, I don't know if anyone else noticed, but the windows on the upper floor look larger than those on the lower floors. A perk of the penthouse levels, I guess. That or I am losing my marbles.

They've started on what we believe to be the final level today. I wasn't sure if the setback penthouse would use the prefab concrete panels, but it appears it is. Including an image from the main thread.

Presumably, they will be finished with the prefab by the end of April. If so, how long was that from start to finish? Was it really faster than standard construction practices, or was it a wash?

Say what you want about this project’s aesthetics, this is still a huge improvement over what was there before. Let’s just hope future high rise projects in the heart of Uotown go with simpler, cleaner, more elegant designs.
