Tell people to stop parking downtown and then downtown parking lots will be less valuable and more desirable for developers to purchase. My 2 cents.

I haven't seen them, are the piles along the outside footprint of the building? If that is the case, the H piles will be for soldier piles. Which will be used to support the retaining walls.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deep_fo...#Soldier_piles

They did a similar thing for the excavation of the parkade.

Cast-in-place concrete structure supported on driven steel piles.

Ya, steel piles vs concrete are usually a factor of the geotechnical recommendations. Or whatever's cheaper.

It's unfortunate that this parkade has become so generic and bland. Its original concept was actually quite interesting and looked (in its appearance) to give Hargrave some colour and life. It sounds stupid, but I was actually excited to see the final product of the original design but meh on what was actually built.

As with the ALT Building they still have to put some yellow cladding on the building which will change that tower somewhat.

I am naively hopeful that they have some future modifications in mind with the parkade.

What can city council really do to ensure these plans for downtown parkades are less awful. If they have a building code penalty, would that really stop companies from taking the cheap road out. They would just pay the fee and cut their losses with these grey monoliths.

It sounds exactly how I felt when the initial renders were released, some form of excitement for a Parkade, if one can get excited for a parking structure?

But I'm still hoping, I believe you mentioned it earlier, that GlassHouse will break up that sea of grey once it's completed and add some contrast in the development.

^ How much could it cost to mount a few coloured panels to the parkade anyhow? I mean, I can live with the parkade not looking like its fanciful rendering, but I'm sure that even a modest amount of money would go a long way to doing something to liven up a hideously bland structure. Let's not have any more of this:

Those look like CRU's in the 2013 render, south end of parkade. I assume that's scrapped.
