OVG has talked big about bringing some form of hockey back post renovations.

If not OHL through the Bulldogs, it'll be some other team. I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up with an ECHL team or another OHL team shifted from some other market, even if the Bulldogs stay in Brantford.

The $280 million renovation will transform the facility into a modernized venue with a focus on providing the ultimate guest experience. Renovations will include the addition of premium seating, clubs, lounges and suites, enhanced acoustics to amplify the listening experience, next generation touchless and self-serve technologies for food & beverage purchases to minimize transaction times and upgraded concourses and concession areas. Additional upgrades to the venue's back of house include specially designed artist lounges, upgraded production facilities, electrical and lighting upgrades as well as updates to the arena's telecommunications infrastructure, wireless network, and video/network/security systems.

With a community-centric approach to the arena design, the venue will boast suites, clubs and lounges designed with the fan in mind. Each premium club will have its own unique offerings that fit the diverse tastes of a multicultural audience. The fully redefined suite experience includes completely new Mid-Level and Event Level suites for the ultimate premium experience. Deposits for the limited number of annual memberships for the arena's premium hospitality spaces will be accepted starting Thursday, May 30. Why would anyone pay $300 million to renovate an arena with no tenant? What would people be buying these suites for?

Corporate welfare + the dreams of citizens to attract an NHL team.

Is there even going to be an upper deck concourse as part of this $300 million renovation because looking at the pics, it's certainly doesn't appear there will be one.

At minimum, they had better be drawing annual concert attendance numbers similar to Edmonton, if not comparable to the next tier up - Vancouver. Otherwise, I don't see how they justify the costs without a major league tennant. Lacrosse and AHL hockey don't justify it with their crowds and gate revenue.

It's going to be an uphill battle with Toronto already having their arena and an amphitheatre which draws concerts 7 months of the year. Then again, the Golden Horseshoe has 8 - 9 million people so perhaps there is a chance this investment pays off.

Existing concourse will be for the upper deck. Street level concourse which has been used for storage since the 80s will be used for lower bowl. Arena level concourse which has been under utilized will be club area.

The pitch here is concerts. They feel the GTA needs a second major indoor arena that can offer better dates for concerts than Scotiabank given no Leafs or Raptors.

There aren't many of those left. Most of us gave up the dream more than 30 years ago, when we first got a shaft in the nether regions.

It's privately funded from my understanding, and no one is talking about an NHL team. You're thinking of Quebec City.

Ottawa's spending $250 million on a new 5,500 seat arena for the OHL. That dosen't include demolishing the 10k seat Civic Centre. Can't help but wonder how much cheaper it would have been to renovate the old, larger arena. No one bothered to ask.

So I think $300 million, privatly funded reno is a good deal.

The $300 million is a 50 year lease with property taxes included.

Some new shots of new Coronation Park Velodrome and the Hemingway Pool Renovations both happening at the same time. This will be a premier Triathlon and Cycling centre here.
This site is definitely making an impact.

The Riverhawks' success has apparently led to discussions about the team joining a professional league. Would be the first pro team since the Trappers left in 2004.

That's fantastic news and likely was always part of the plan with the new owners.

Happy to hear about the Riverhawks. We need to bring more pro minor league/independent ball back to Canada.

Trappers were a Triple A MLB affiliated team. This elevation would be a single A non affiliated probably in the Frontier League as MLB now has compete control and MLB demolished minor league baseball in Canada.

Geographically I think the Pioneer league would make most sense with teams in Montana and other nearby states to Alberta.
