For those who may be skeptics about Cineplex going to Atlantic Canada, a few things to think about.

1. Cineplex Entertainment, even before today's announcement, is the biggest movie theatre company and film distributor in Canada.

2. Cineplex is the only movie theatre company with a customer loyalty program, called SCENE.

3. SCENE can help you save money on purchases in theatre and at Cineplex.com.

4. Cineplex has launched a program called 'SuperTicket', which can allow you to buy the DVD-Bluray-Digital Download of a movie you saw with them when it comes out to retail.

To those in Saint John, I can guarantee that you will enjoy going to see movies with Cineplex. In terms of SCENE, it works like this.

1. You go to SCENE.ca to register for a SCENE Card. You get 250 free starter points when you sign up.

2. When you get your card, you go to any Cineplex theatre across Canada, and present your card at the ticket counter. You get your SCENE card scanned, and then you pay for your movie ticket. You can cash in your SCENE points in Vancouver, even if you earned those points in Saint John.

3. If you want some snacks when you see your movie, you then would go to the concession stand. You get your SCENE Card scanned, and then you pay for the snacks.

4. Each SCENE Card swipe gives you a certain number of points, like 100 points per movie ticket, and at least 100 points for your concessions. You also get 10% off your snacks as a SCENE Member.

5. If you choose to buy your Cineplex movie tickets at Cineplex.com, m.cineplex.com(for mobile devices), or the Cineplex mobile phone app, you get 20 more points.

6. For those here with families, you get 50 points per child ticket you buy as well.

7. You get 5 points per $1 spent on purchases of DVDs, Bluray discs, and digital movie downloads at Cineplex.com($30 movie = 150 SCENE Points).

If you have either a ScotiaBank debit or credit card, you get SCENE Points on all things you buy at stores too.

You would earn 1 SCENE point for every $5 spent on a ScotiaBank SCENE Debit or Credit card at a store, and 5 points when those cards would be used at a Cineplex venue.

Some examples about in-theatre rewards.

The in-theatre rewards allow you to get a free movie ticket at 1,000 points.

You can also get a free concession combo(large drink and large popcorn), for another 1,000 points.

If you are a WWE fan, from 1,200 points, you can see a WWE PPV event on the big screen for no money. However, you CANNOT use that deal for WrestleMania. You got to pay for your ticket to see WrestleMania on the big screen.

I hope that helps to explain Cineplex further.

=)
That's great and all but are you on the payroll or just a massive Cineplex fan?

Forgot to mention: saw a Google Streetview car driving down highway 1 toward the city the other day.

Their current imagery is from April 2009 and looks quite dreary to say the least.

It's been around for a while - I've seen it go past my business on Rothesay Ave. twice in the last month. I'm hoping for updates as well, the picture for my address is a house, which was subsequently lifted and renovated into commercial. Not sure having Google Places on my listings helps or hurts me.

They completely missed my street (in Rothesay) last time but back in mid-May it drove past my son while he was walking home from the bus stop. So hopefully they got us this time. It's silly but I kind of felt like we were being left behind from the rest of the world when my street wasn't on streetview.

It'll be nice to have the updated streetview, but my biggest beef with Google Maps is still the god-awful satellite imagery they have for SJ.

It looks like that view of the Peninsula was taken by Apollo 13 during re-entry.

I do confess I'm a fan, but one who chose to tell people here how Cineplex's SCENE works, and just what Cineplex is.

I did so to let those in Saint John know about this in a better context. So that way, when Cineplex gets there, you'll be able to have an easier time dealing with Cineplex.

=)

It was opened up again today. For anyone who hasn't seen it, they put up (what look to be) temporary barricades to prevent the rocks from the overhead retaining wall from falling onto the highway. Root problem is still there, but at least the lane is reopened.

A crude oil train has derailed and caught fire in Megantic, Quebec overnight causing major damage in the center of town. I presume it was heading for the Irving refinery. If so, this can't be good news for ongoing rail shipment of crude oil to the refinery in the future......

Still not very high res though. The Bing imagery we've had for some time is still better.

Who owns Westwind Place?

There is a tonne of empty space in there... the former NB Liquor needs to be filled.

Pipeline seems more promising each day. But Saint John must diversify. the growth of the Irving companies can't dictate the growth of the city as it seems to. It is ludicrous.

Take the revenue generated by the pipeline and invest in education and information economies. Perhaps even tidal power? Attract a company other than irving to begin work in SJ with regards to the Fundy tidal power potential.

Thoughts?

Potash plant is good diversification along with the IT sector in the city. Although we are in the dark, most city leaders think the economic storm clouds are leaving.
