Wow, the G spot building is already getting torn down?!?!

Not that I'm gonna miss that horrid thing... but man... they don't build stuff to last in this town.

It's being converted into a hotel. I understand why, the G Spot layouts aren't ideal for student housing.

Hard pass on this particular campaign to bring MLB to Austin. I can't stand in league with some or all of the individuals officially on record with the entity registered. I better keep my mouth shut I guess, because apparently airing clear disagreements with reactionaries gets your post removed on here.

I'd love a stadium along the waterfront, just not directly across from Downtown.

The perfect location IMO would be the sprawled-out UT housing along Lake Austin Blvd. Altogether it could be a great mixed-use of dense student/affordable housing, hotel, and retail against an underutilized thoroughfare. Redevelop the golf course on the other side as well. Invest in Lake Austin Blvd to be pedestrian and cycle-friendly, this could work out just fine.

I want the city to open this area eventually (and everything south of W 6th past Lamar) to new/unrestricted height limits.

All of which can be resolved with the right infrastructure improvements, but yeah just my imagination. I’d actually prefer us having the world’s largest Ferris Wheel w/ mixed-use over a stadium.

interesting. I wonder if the Mayor just wants the developers (maybe they want it too) to push through their individual plans without the city slowing down the process.

We've all known about this for well over 10 years...plenty of time to "put together a plan".

From an Austin Monitor article earlier this year, "A visibly upset Commissioner Felicity Maxwell, who has also worked on the plan as a member of the South Central Waterfront Advisory Board, pointed out that there had been probably “tens of thousands of hours” put into the plan."

I don't like this shiz from the city. This project should be well underway by now, if not damn near finished.

I think Watson just wants the developers to get to work, and leave the council out of it. Damn this city is stupid sometimes.

Whoever posted that image does not realize that having huge 2nd and 3rd decks in the outfield stands are no longer desired by MLB teams. Existing teams are already tearing down huge upper deck outfield seats where they exist.

Just some fools dream. The City of Austin has never help fund any stadium for any school, or professional team in the past. I do not think they will in the future. The same can not be said about San Antonio, with both pro arena and football stadium already standing with city and county funding.

Last summer mid July I got back from Houston during afternoon rush. Manor was a shit show. Hung a right on Parmer get to Techridge/35. Parmer was nuts. Road construction since then is better, but the wave of development has continued. I'd rather have seen Parmer become a freeway from 35, over or under 130, to 290E.

I don't envy folks in Manor with their commutes.

Many years back they made a 290 bypass outside of Hempstead near Houston. The old 290 portion became 290 Business through town. I guess there's too many logistical obstacles to give Manor that treatment.

It was recently in the news that the CTRMA has begun planning to extend the 290 toll road to Elgin.
