While many commie blocks (or similar structures) often look bleak and ugly on their own & in groups of the same style, they add a bit of character to the city when surrounded by all modern towers. They also get drowned out by these modern towers

I agree but the ones shown in that image are some of the worse offender for poor land use. Also I should have put more on more creative towers being needed.

That area is one of the worst in Toronto with homeless shelters and community housing, but its gentrifying rapidly so interesting to contrast the blue/white new builds with the 100 year old warehouses and 50 year old brown/grey tower blocks.

Those apartment blocks in Moss Park need to come down ASAP. I don't mind some 70s blocks but those ones are horrendous. Turn the entire lot into a park and build high density on its perimeter.

The photographer should've had the image taken closer to the ground....it looks awkward.

Love that Montreal shot before it though.

Which city has more of an urban population? Edmonton appears to have a bit more residential then Calgary in most shots I've seen.

Edmonton’s highrises are more spread out. Oliver is like their Beltline but further from the core and with less residents.

A lazy Google search returned these results:

Edmonton 2014 "downtown" population: 13,148.

Calgary 2016 "downtown" population: 18,114.

In both cases, I doubt that "downtown" correlates very closely with each city's actual urban neighborhoods (and of course we could endlessly debate which neighborhoods those are.) For example, the Calgary number doesn't include the beltline or mission or bridgeland.
