Wait... does anyone know if the Subway atop 1WTC is actually charging the workers for their food? Subway made a big deal about how they were donating a Subway shop to the construction site and all that, but if they're actually charging the workers then they just managed to open a shop in Ground Zero. It's not like the Subway company is actually donating anything to the World Trade Center or anything like that.

Well unless those gentlemen are playing liar's poker, I'd say Subway is charging them. Hopefully they're giving them a discount or donating proceeds to the survivors, or making good in some other way. Otherwise it would be pretty reprehensible.

Subway's not going to pay for that shop in a year by selling $4 sandwiches. It will probably barely meet operational expenses. It will be a money loser. Probably written off as a publicity expense.

They are charging the regular price even though this store costs much more to operate than a regular Subway. The reason they got the contract is that they were the only company willing to eat the loss. I'm sure it's worth it to them in publicity.

Agreed. We've got to realize that unlike a normal Subway shop, absolutely no regular consumers have access to it. Furthermore, lots of those construction workers are eating lunches that they have packed and brought in with them. That means that the number of regular customers is going to be extremely low compared to a shop located in a more traditional location. Even if the real estate in the container is free, the profit margin can't be very appealing.

They want to install the first glass during that summer. I hope they're going to do that soon.

You should all ask for the Freedom Tower's forgiveness, after complaining for years about the slow progress of the World Trade Center's construction.

i have a feeling that those safety nets are going to be hiding the true form of the tower as its under construction.... the tower is finally seeming to be angling towards the top like it should be, but the safety nets hide it.

^Once the notches in the corner get bigger as they approach the top, the nets will have to move in also; otherwise they're not doing their job of fall prevention.
