So they got rid of the brick and went with cheap looking panels instead.

For the front part, are those historic facades that they are building over, or is it all new that's built to look like historic facades?

Does anyone have any intel on when move-ins will begin for some of the downtown apartment towers currently under construction? My lease is up in March and I’m looking for something new.

From what I can see, 415 Colorado, ATX Tower, and The Travis will all be “complete/delivered” by early 2025, but I can’t track down estimates of when move-ins could begin.

This project is such a joke. They are essentially going to demolish 80% of the depth of those historic buildings (which are very deep) and create a Disney version of them with fugly apartments behind them. These will look dated in 20 years. At least require them to use brick or stone for God sakes.

Arts Commission gives early OK for city aid to expand Umlauf museum

The Arts Commission wants City Council to give an initial endorsement to an ambitious plan to improve and expand the Umlauf Sculpture Garden and Museum, which is managed in partnership with the city’s Parks and Recreation Department.

At Monday’s meeting, the commission received a presentation on the plan for the 8-acre site, which sits on hilly terrain just east of Zilker Metropolitan Park and has a number of accessibility and infrastructure issues that have, to date, constrained its use. Centered on the former home of famed sculptor Charles Umlauf, whose estate donated the homestead and more than 200 pieces of art to the city, the site currently has about 35,000 visitors per year.

The plan, which was completed over the past year by the Page architecture firm, breaks the site into four areas with work broken into three phases, beginning with improvements of existing facilities to address accessibility and visitor experience.

There are no cost estimates for the plan, which would be funded through a multiyear capital campaign as well as public funds, possibly including a portion of a bond package expected to go before voters in 2026

That's true. My assumptions about where this was exactly were incorrect. I had assumed this was for 1-2 blocks west of that site, where Stream Realty has pushed for doing something similar but applying the "Disney" treatment. Thanks for uploading the photo of this site.

Neglect. Long term owners fighting any thought of Historical designation. There was a deal to save facades. They out-waited that. So, long story short, they got what they wanted. "Fire", time, decay all = long term eye sore.... then demolished. Such great community minded owners I'm sure.

Be careful what you ask for - might become something like a lovely Hilton Garden Inn. It's a shame these were purposely neglected and now gone forever.

What a loss! Amazing to see these torn down while other stuff gets historical designation. This is tragic. There will be no architectural heritage to pass down in this city that’s worth a damn.

I doubt that is still the plan - especially since it's for an office building proposal dating back to 2010. Hopefully the fire and structural collapses won't affect any plans to rebuild the facades. There are no site plan or permits filed for any project at the site other than demo permits.

Oh, I actually didn't know that there had been a fire and collapses. I thought there were just tied up in some sort of ownership dispute hell.
