I certainly agree with you there. And frankly, I'm a little surprised that it hasn't happened yet... you would think that whatever MLSE could extort from a prospective Hamilton team owner in various fees would be worth more than the marginal number of ticket sales and TV viewers they'd stand to lose in the Hamilton/Niagara area. But no one seems to be willing or able to pull it off.
I'm sure it'll happen at some point, but the issue here is will it happen soon enough to justify spending the cash on a massive arena makeover right now? I would say not. By the time a franchise lands in Hamilton, it could be 15 years after the renovations at which point Hamilton is back to square one. Why not just wait until there is an actual need for a NHL arena before building one?
