There's two high rise turned skyscrapers in the GTA by pinnacle (antenna) height. Surely there are many more.

Oh oh. I think Chicago may have expanded their lead since I last checked for built and future built. It was closer than 15.

New York, Schmooyork

564 skyscrapers built, construction (incl. on hold) and proposed (incl. stale) in the Greater Toronto Area. 387 in Toronto.

Now we just need the Sugar Wharf 2 twins to go into sales and start construction (how many years will that take?); and the second supertall at One Yonge I assume hasn't started sales either?

Pinnacle finances their own construction so pre-construction sales thresholds don't apply to them at all.

The current under construction supertall at One Yonge has not officially started sales yet either, though there are lots of Letters of Intent [to purchase] submitted.

You sure about Sky Tower sales?

There's a lot of sales info available online
https://www.talkcondo.com/toronto/sk...cle-one-yonge/

30% of the tower is hotel too.

You're right, they have started sales. I just missed it.

That doesn't change that they'll likely start construction on the 3rd tower prior to sales.

^ Good news for super-tall fans, the height increases for SkyTower (u/c now @ 345 metres) and Phase 3 (now a super-tall @ 306.8 metres/92 storeys) ... were approved yesterday at City Council.

2 super-talls side by side would certainly be skyline changers ;-).

Pinnacle One Yonge | 344.9m | 105s | Pinnacle | Hariri Pontarini l u/c

SkyTower and Phase 3 super-talls in the centre of the rendering below.

LOL Toronto may just be the least NIMBY city on the continent and yet I always get this impression of it being one of the most NIMBY on the continent.

LOL Another approved proposal to add to that really long list.

Any confirmation (like new marketing material) Pinnacle is going ahead with 345 metres?

Thanks Maldive for sharing that news. That could mean Toronto will go from zero to 5 supertalls (depending on how Concords tower ends up being measured) over night. At the start of this boom Toronto forumers were excited over 40 storey condos. Now we're 65 floors above that.

I still absolutely hate the idea of having conventional blue-glass condo towers drowning out the financial district in such a prominent view. I wouldn't mind if I liked the design - I've always loved Harbour Plaza - but I've never liked any of the iterations of these. I don't like being so negative, but I honestly worry that the skyline is being ruined.

Same thing happened with Vancouver. It had one of my favourite skylines up until it got taken over by blue-glass condos springing up like weeds smothering a garden and now I just don't bother paying attention to it. Just not interested. Non-descript blue-glass condos can make for a decent addition to a skyline to augment the density, but they can't successfully serve as the centerpiece.

It's a wall that blots out most of the downtown from the lake and block views of water from the tens of thousand of high rise units North of the Gardiner. I guess the effect will increase appreciation for water views between the gaps in the wall. Toronto, in my experience, has been timid over seeing the lake from one's window.

It's a valid concern but the view from the waterfront has always been the worst of Toronto's skyline IMO. The way growth patterns are going you'll still be able to see the financial district from the East, and if you're slightly askew from the West -think Dundas st alignment. The view looking down Dundas at around Dovercourt is pretty awesome still.

That would definitely be a consolation for anyone who didn't care for the waterfront view to begin with.

The view from Riverdale Park has blown the water out of the waterfront view for as long as I remember although the Regent Park development could have a similar effect to the condos built in the Railway Lands

It can't be dismissed that the waterfront view typically represents Toronto to the rest of the world. I'm saddened to see the office core being supplanted by condo towers. The skyline is still much more impressive than it was 20 years ago. Planning policy to have tallest towers against highway corridor has the effect of building walls and the line of proposed condo towers along the East Gardiner is too close to the shoreline to provide significant skyline depth. It's still a wait and see and if it actually develops before senility establishes itself.

I having a feeling Sky Tower could end up looking a lot better than we thought.
if it was a dark blue it would make all the difference.

I agree, I wish we had the diversity we get at Yonge and Bloor.at least some of the shorter buildings along the waterfront are using more interesting materials now.
